Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

The Lot of Being Liberal

(Names slightly change to protect the crazy)

I got a strange text message from my friend Alice;

“Syk is coming, don’t bring up politics, please”

Syk is the nickname for one of my teabagger friends I’ve mentioned before. He and I had a racial quarrel earlier in the week that I’ll mention in a bit. I texted back

“I won’t if he won’t”

All The Unemployed Are Lazy Slobs…Except Me.

I’ve been told I make pretty convincing arguments for stuff. I got most of my PUMA friends to vote for Obama, even if some of them went the teabagging route since.

I was captain of the debate team and wrote the speech that won my ex-girlfriend Student Council President in Senior year of High School.

So I take it upon myself to real hammer home the liberal/progressive messaging. I’ve found it tough as you’ve no doubt heard. Today, I tried taking on unemployment…it ended in a disaster. I thought invoking myself would work. My friends like me. They know I’m not a lazy slob. They know how hard it was for me to find a job after I lost mine at ABC. They know my experience. I would be the perfect reason why unemployment benefits should be extended.

This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

The lesson of the last 24 hours is…Fox News is nothing more than a right wing propaganda outfit that is willing to air lies and committ slander if it serves a purpose of helping conservatives, the rest of the media is too horny for scandal to realize it or do its own research and we, as a country, cannot exist with a government that has to preempt an impending media narrative every morning before breakfast.

America, the Misinformed and Proud of it!

“Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government,” Thomas Jefferson said when our democracy first came into the existence we know now in 1789.

Jefferson might never have envisioned an American voting public like the one we have now. Few of us can say that the American people are well-informed. Can they be trusted with their own government anymore? Can the misnformed be rightly informed?

I’m not leaning heavily toward no and don’t bother trying, it’s hopeless.

Russ Feingold- Wall St. Lobbyists’ Unlikely Ally

The financial reform bill, with it’s Vockler rule, it’s consumer protection agency, and it’s audit the Fed amendment, is heading in for a landing.

That’s before Sen. Byrd passed and the Massachusetts Centerfold decided he doesn’t exactly like taxing banks.

And now with opposition from the left via Russ Feingold, Congressional leaders may have no choice but to give in to GOP demands to drop the bank tax, which may not even help.

Memorial Day Madness- OPEN THREAD

So my summer is off to a rather rocky start. While taking down part of the deck in my backyard this afternoon, to comply with one of 17 violations the Suffolk County Buildings Department found in my house thanks to my next door neighbor calling them because she’s upset we’re a bunch of liberal cat-haters or whatever, my dad suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.

My dad is a former US Air Force pilot and has always been in good shape. He looks like hell. Luckilly, he’s ok and can come home tomorrow…but he almost doesn’t want to come home. In response, I’m trying to get my mother from choking our neighbor to death. She saw her pull out of her driveway this afternoon when we got back from the hospital and i had all to do to keep her from going over there and punching her lights out. I’m staying at the rents place for the weekend and I’m seriously consider taking some revenge tactics like filling my neighbor’s mailbox with bleach or something, because I’m just that pissed.

What are you up to this weekend?

When Your Nasty Neighbors Become Scary…

This isn’t really political…it sorta is, but I’m gonna write about it anyway because it’s on my mind. Hope you don’t mind.

My parents live in Commack, New York…a quaint far out suburb of New York City on Long Island about halfway between NYC and The Hamptons. (Exit 52 on the Long Island Expressway)

Recently, my parents have had some neighbor trouble and my mom thinks part of it is political. Here’s the story.

Pro Wall Street Propaganda- OPEN THREAD

I rolled out of bed this morning watching the morning show on New York City’s local Fox affilate.

In a segment about the financial reform bill, the anchor was interviewing a Fox Business Reporter who proceeded to slam the financial reform bill in one of the most disgusting pieces of journalism I’ve ever seen.

Jobs II- The Rapacious Right

Last year while I and 10 percent of the population was unemployed, my dad’s company laid off 10 percent of their entire workforce, mostly working class laborers and administrative assistants who were barely scraping by before the recession.

In response, my dad’s big boss…bought an NFL football team for a half a billion dollars. His direct boss, the Executive VP of the company bought a yacht and a summer home…in Aruba…after selling his summer home in the Hamptons.

In America this is ok.
