Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Wishing Madelyn Dunham Well

Madelyn Dunham, Barack Obama’s grandmother and the person whom he credits with much of his upbringing and character is in ill health, and Obama is taking several days off late this week to go see her in Hawaii.

Obviously Barack would not be traveling to Hawaii at this specific time unless there were grave concerns for his grandmother’s well being.

We wish Mrs. Dunham and all of her family well.

That Sarah Palin is one unreal Alaskan

That Sarah Palin is one unreal Alaskan   SETH KANTNER  GUEST COLUMNIST

Seattle Times    19 October 2008

I’m sitting on my bearskin chair beside the woodstove, in Kotzebue, Alaska,

50 miles above the Arctic Circle, while outside the ocean begins to freeze

over. Inside I have about 49 things piling up to say to you, America.

Colin Powell Endorses Obama

This morning Republican former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell and former Secretary of State endorsed Barack Obama for president.

“He has met the standard of being an exceptional president.” Powell said.  “He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure.”

Perception is Everything

On BBC World News there is a discussion going on right now on the impact of current events on America’s position in international affairs.  Whether the US will be the world leader in a handful or years, or whether it will not.  There are depressingly good arguments to be made as to why it will not be.

The deciding factor was summed up in the line that compelled me to write this diary:

“As is true in financial markets, in international affairs perception is everything.”

We have a choice.

John McCain Betrayed the Man Who Saved His Life

We hear a lot about John McCain’s military record.  Most often we are hearing about it from John McCain, unless Sarah Palin is telling us how much he doesn’t like to talk about it.

Apparently there is one part he doesn’t like to talk about, and that’s how he was saved from drowning and being beaten to death by Mr. Mai Van On.

Palin Failin’: On Professionalism and Experience

The Palin Fail on abuse of power and ethics violation is a matter of record now.  A non-partisan legislative council convicted her of those charges.  The McCain machine response is that she wins because she does not face certain censure and impeachment due to her violations, only potential censure and impeachment.  They – and most of the media – have missed the point.

The Palin administration has been convicted of rank amateurism.  If this is the “executive experience” she touts, we are better off hiring an experienced executive crook like Ken Lay.

At least one person in the media didn’t miss that.

Palin Failin’: On Reading Troopergate Report

Sarah Palin, the person who at the moment is both a candidate for Vice President as well as Governor of Alaska, has been asked to repeat her High School Reading Comprehension class.  Apparently, she believes that the Troopergate report released on Friday vindicates her.

Mrs. Haverschatt – Palin’s original Reading Comprehension teacher when she was a junior at Wasilla High – has said she would come out of retirement to tutor the Governor.
