Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

we got hit bad up here in the Catskills yesterday – I’m okay and we have no trees down – but our power went out three times ( so glad we have back up generator) and there are still a lot of people up here with no power.

Trees were down nearby – quite a few roads blocked.

Bad flooding in neighboring Sullivan and parts of Dutchess

I actually slept last night! 8 whole hours. It was lovely. Took one of my remaining ambiens to do it, but it was worth it. Back is somewhat stiff, but again worth it.

    Eating breakfast & drinking tea.

Just read on FB that the man who was pastor at the church that hosted the first PFLAG meetings I went to has killed himself. Frustration over all the injustice inthe church & the world. But his family said he hadn’t seemed depressed…..very sad. article about his suicide – it is disturbing

Playing happy poppy music in my head even louder now.

thunderstorms. We finally did get some rain yesterday evening and more is expected. Woke up to bright sunshine but now the sky is clouding over, so must get all errands done before the storm breaks.

Wow, you really got hammered in Wisconsin and New York! Glad you have a backup generator, Denise. We have one too and it’s been a blessing. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s not having a cup of tea.

Going to take Miss Pink Cheeks home tonight after dinner. That will free us to start work on Hubby’s office tomorrow until it’s time to go to our son’s house for the Fourth of July barbecue.

The WaPo has an article about the music for the “Star-Spangled Banner” in the Metro section this morning. I’m one who’s all for the traditional national anthem. Yes, I know it’s hard to sing but it can be done, and I get cold chills down my spine when I hear it. Long may it wave!

Hope everyone in Mooseland will have a good day and a great July Fourth!

I turned the A/C off yesterday around 7 when the outdoor temps dropped lower than what I set my thermostat at.  It would have been lovely sleeping weather – if some folks down the street hadn’t decided to celebrate the 4th early.  With professional fireworks.  Breaking curfew while they were at it.  (Why, oh why do the “patriot” types seem to think you should celebrate the founding of our country by breaking the law as well as frightening every dog for miles around and causing the neighboring veterans to have flashbacks?)  I think I got 4-1/2 hours sleep last night and my bet is it will be the same through Saturday night (and maybe Sunday if their god tells them he doesn’t have a problem with fireworks on his day – they’re very “in your face” Christian).  sigh.

    Soloing at work today, the University is closed tomorrow, and I’m taking a vacation day Monday – but, internet permitting, I’ll check in when I can today and be back Tuesday.  Have a wonderful day and weekend in Moosylvania.  (Hummm, is Moosylvania where all the women are strong, the men good looking, and the children above average or is Moosylvania where it never rains until after sundown and by 6 am the dew is off the grass?)  ðŸ™‚  {{{HUGS}}}

The grand girls will be here soon and fortunately they are requesting an easy day. I was outdoors most of the day yesterday so a slower pace is what I need as well.

Bellingham finally banned all fireworks in city limits so the neighborhood is quiet. Much better for the dogs. Heide isn’t afraid but our other dogs were.

Our 4th will be low key this year. Given all the company coming next week (Ron’s brother and his wife will be here too)it will be the last quiet day for awhile. Best rest up!
