Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

heading up to a high of 46.

Am going to wander around outside later and poke at the piled up snow, to see what bulbs are attempting to come up -this is the first year I haven’t been able to see the snowbells (Leucojum aestivum), and  crocuses should have already started to sprout.

    Cold/rainy front coming.

Eating breakfast & watching Up. Good variety of stories today, finally not a whole 2 hours on New Jersey. Sadly, so much time on the missing plane. Going to get my feet/legs squeezed while I watch this & Melissa-less MHP. And I swear I’m exercising today.

The sun is coming in my front window at a very low angle and blinding me. It hasn’t yet hit the floor (it’s still shining on the opposite wall) so the cats are not in full bliss mode yet.

It’s supposed to be 82, but my most accurate weather widget still tends to be low when estimating the high. Fortunately it’s not smoggy. Birds are singing and I can smell the Jasmine blooming away.

I was hoping for a nice lazy day, but somehow when my damned electronic bus pass was refilled, even though the receipts say a whole month was put on, it was only filled for a week. Grrrr. And I can’t do my usual “put it off till tomorrow” routine because the place I filled it has this marathon route running directly through it. Last year I went to the store at the wrong time and got stuck in this stuff called rain for about an hour waiting for the main body of runners to go past. Yeah, that was fun!

weather is nice here.  What else: it’s LA.  Got a lot of rough boards that need to be smooth, so my day will be spent sanding them.  A big fat report that’s overdue, so after the stain is applied, i’ll be typing.

don’t forget those clocks tomorrow.  spring forward to waking up in the dark and at least a bit of late sun after work.

Hey all. Raining and about 50 degrees in my corner of the pnw…

I dropped in today and posted a diary about an NGO I am working with, called ACT for Congo. Actually, the diary is about one of ACT’s partners and a Kickstarter that a friend made to raise money for a project. But…

I wanted to share it here because I know that several of you are interested in what’s happening near Goma. The diary today is focused on the Kickstarter (please share and tweet so they can reach their goal), but it introduces one of ACT’s great partner organizations, too.

I think this is a good place for Congo stuff. I feel like it’s hard to find people who care about things that seem so remote, and this blog is full of them. I would like to write a series about things in Congo, if you’d like.

And I’ll try to check in more often. It seems like life is chewing up all my blogging time!

I hope you all are well.  ðŸ™‚

Big accomplishment for the day – bought groceries. Also was reminded of the big drawback to being short & living alone – changing lightbulbs. I fell off the bed changing the one in my room. But I used an LED bulb so I shouldn’t have to do that again for 10 years. That was really more excitement than I was looking for on a Saturday. But my head is ok.

I’m sitting on the floor, watching last week’s Walking Dead & letting the machine squeeze my legs. Might get started on next week’s food when I’m done getting squeezed, or maybe I’ll just sit on the couch. Gonna have an Amy’s risotto for dinner & keep clearing out the dvr till time for Ripper Street,
