Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

got up several times during the night to check the pipes since temps were lower

We’re on a 2-hour delay because of ice. There were thunderstorms last night. And freezing temps. This winter has had the craziest weather anyone has seen. Yo-yo, rollercoaster… however you phrase it, never has the saying “if you don’t like Texas weather, wait 5 minutes” been more applicable.

And I leave work at 3 because of my doctor appointment. I bet the server is still down, so I wonder if there’s any point. Happy Tuesday.

a gray-white sky, frozen roads, closed schools, etc., etc. Thankfully, my son is taking Miss Pink Cheeks to day care. Grandma does not enjoy slipping and sliding over icy roads, having had far too many accidents in the days when she was gainfully employed and driving to work.

Last night the “Internets” went down at our house: why? No one knows. Being old and clueless, we were completely at sea. It’s useless to try to get in touch with Verizon. Once they’ve hooked you up, you can go to hail as far as they’re concerned–as long as you pay the bill on time.(Note to self: remember to go on Yelp and give them a lousy review.)

I shut down my desktop computer (the “master” in our house) and turned it back on. Nuthin’. Did a system restore to Saturday: still nuthin’. Finally, having a dim memory of an activity called “refreshing the signal,” it occurred to me to do something to the router. We were going to decapitate it, but eventually decided to press the on/off switch a couple of times. It worked!  The flashing light marked “Internet” came on and Firefox sprang quivering into life.

Isn’t that great? To all of you meese who are more knowledgeable, this is going to seem hilarious. However, we are Senior Cits who barely know what a router is, let alone how to adjust our “systems.” (Could make a rude joke here but will refrain.)

Wishing all of Mooseland a safe, warm day of not slipping and sliding over icy roads!

It’s so nice to have normal wet weather…..no more snow!

We decided to add carpet to the basement sewing studio and study update so finding some samples is on today’s list. Given the floor is below grade and can still flood if the perimeter drains back up I think we should use carpet tiles. I hope I can find some that are budget friendly and not ugly.

which itself was nicer than the day before.  University was closed yesterday and we had late start today – and of course I was slammed the minute I walked in the door 2 hours ago.  Just catching my breath and checking in.  Hope everybody is safe and in good health.  {{{HUGS}}} bf
