Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

  1. Have a great day, meeses!

It is supposed to get to 20 degrees ABOVE zero today.

Busy morning here … I hope to be able to check back.

But day before yesterday I slipped and fell on black ice. I thought I was stepping over the icy spot next to the rain gutter downspout. Didn’t realize a thin film of water had spread out over an area several feet across. Completely clear and literally invisible. I fell like a set of car keys in the driveway. Landed on my left knee and hip, and stuck out my hand to protect my head. Thought at first I had broken my kneecap and possibly my hip. However, i grabbed the side view mirror of the car and used that for a handhold to pull myself up, trying not to snap the mirror off the car. The knee and hip still worked, which they would not have if I had broken anything.

Temp was around zero and kidling was over at the college finishing registration. My first thought was that I was going to have lay in the driveway and call 911, hoping I didn’t freeze in the meantime.  After I hobbled inside, she called and said she was on her way home. Told her what happened and to pick up some extra large non stick gauze pads at the drug store. I got my butt chewed out good for not calling her immediately. She went all Celt on me. I had my pant leg pulled up and blood was dripping off the gash in my hand, making a puddle on the floor.

She walked in the door with her cell phone camera stuck out, taking pictures of it. As soon as she dressed the wounds, she sent the pictures to my DiL and Kelley. Two of my favorite RNs but got more butt chewing. I told our friend 43North about it in an email. He said he was revising his previous opinion of kidling that she was a “good girl,” and decided she has an evil streak for sending Kelley the photos.

I am better, but when I took a shower this morning, discovered more bruises I had not noticed before.

Manhattan. We’re head for 31 so may have to switch to iced coffee to cool off.

Here, we are enjoying the Christie story. Wasn’t sure if it had gone national or was still just a local story. Evidently, it has gone national. OMG, what a story!! Am headed to read more.

Eating breakfast & watching the news. Apparently it is super foggy out. I wouldn’t know, I’m sitting on my couch. If it was as cold as it was a few days ago, this would be a mess.

I need to get some stuff done with the car, and I want to try out my new shoes – definitely inside. But wight now, Dr. Who is on, so I’ll just sit here for a while.

black ice off the bricks surrounding my building.  I didn’t fall but others in my department did yesterday getting out.  (I did my falling at home Tuesday after work coming back in from refilling the bird feeders – I apparently hit my left knee, hip, and back just behind my left shoulder – apparently since that’s where the bruises are.  I never remember hitting, just starting to fall.)  At least no QC tonight.  Everybody be careful out there!  {{{HUGS}}} bf

The rain and gusty wind made for a restless night, and thus a sleepy morning.

It’s an errand day for me….return a coat to Lands End, haircut and color, buy a birthday gift for a friend, etc. I planned to do more yesterday but spent a quiet afternoon with 6 yr old Ava instead. She really enjoys playing with her dad’s old toys.

to post tonight about the Hill Country Ride. Since I have to do all the videos separately, I can’t just copy & paste at both sites. I may post it just before bed tonight & come back & talk in it in the morning
