Interrogatories

How many U.S. States have you been to? How many countries have you been to? Which were your favorites?

Are you good at chess? How often do you play?

Do you actually read every word of the terms and conditions for software updates and various memberships?

When you were in grade school, did you ever have to make goofy presents for a parent as an art project? What did you make? Did the parent like it? Did the parent keep it?

This one is satire, unfortunately:

I can’t resist a pun:

How many US States? Mmmm, counting just passing through, CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, NV, AZ, NM, TX, LA, MD, DC, NH, RI, NY, MA, CT, IL, WI, MN… did I get them all? Naturally CA is my favorite, but love all the coastal states on the West, and NY and DC are very cool. I didn’t really dislike any except TX, and I was very young and it was summer and it was too damned hot the first time. The second time I was in Austin, and I loved that.

I haven’t played chess in so long I probably don’t remember how. I never got really good at it.

Do I actually read every word of the terms and conditions for software updates and various memberships? Ha! Life is too short.

My grade school specialized in goofy parental presents. There was the cigar box that was covered with glued on pasta pieces and spray painted gold; the papier-mache orchid (painted dark blue) with the cotton and beads glued in the center with a pin on the back so Mom could have her very own corsage; the paper weight for dad consisting of a heavy glass flat-bottomed ashtray that had my picture on the bottom, got filled with pink-tinted plaster, and then when it dried my smiling face could keep the papers on Dad’s desk from blowing away. There was an enamel pin (on copper), and the candles: the ones where you poored the colored wax into a small milk carton filled with crushed ice, which formed a very holey candle, and the sand candles, where you made a dent in a bucket of sand and poored in the wax. They always at least pretended to like the gifts, and kept them for a decent interval.

Been to all the states except Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Montana, and Michigan.  I’ve never been abroad except for Canada, so I guess I like Canada the best.  California’s my favorite state.

I know all the moves in chess, but nothing about strategery.  Haven’t played in many years.

I rarely read anything practical, unless it’s instructions for assembling something.

Had to make Valentines and Mother’s Day cards, I guess.  I think parents are obligated by law to like those things, aren’t they?  I think the parent kept things for a time.  Not sure how long.

US states – Texas, Missouri (an aunt lived there), and I remember in high school visiting my brother who was in the Navy in Virginia, Florida (brother again), and do airports count? I’ve been to JKF more times than I can count, and LAX once.

Countries lived in: UAE (lived in Sharjah & Dubai), Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Austria

Visited: England, the Netherlands, France, Italy (don’t go at Christmas), Greece, Spain (there are 2 cities that look like they’re in Morocco, but they belong to Spain – we went there all the time when we lived in Algeria, to stock up on forbidden items like pork & alcohol — though everyone in Algeria made wine & beer so I don’t know why we needed the latter), Morocco, France, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Lebanon, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Singapore……. I feel like I’m leaving something out but I can’t think what.

Are you good at chess? How often do you play?

I played as a kid, but not since.

Do you actually read every word of the terms and conditions for software updates and various memberships?

    No.

Handprints, ash trays… no, we moved too many times to keep stuff like that.

How many U.S. States have you been to? How many countries

nearly all, less in NE and NW. many: england, ireland, france, spain, germany, italy, switzerland, czech (independently once, czeckoslovakia once); israel, turkey; thailand, china, australia, new zealand.  nothing in south america or africa yet, and not poland.  oh wait also sweden.

    am ok. sometimes w/ kids.

    ha

yes.  my parents kept my jr high shop projects, and i have them today. there was a nice woodworked plant stand and a metal tool bin with a handle.  i have vague recollections of felt items.  who knows what i will find when i finally get my head together to deal with those boxes?

my nephews grew up with the phoenixes family; parents sorta hippie eccentrics, nice, Gainesville, there’s a daughter too I think I remember. Of course, no one remotely eccentric in my family. We’re all up close larger than life eccentric, but for me, the understated logical one. ahem.

    hi, Foji!

  6. This makes me weep:

    This one is satire, unfortunately:

Lou Reed was one of the worst senators of all time. I’d say good riddance.

       – Sarah PaIin (@SarahPaIinUSA) October 27, 2013

Why does Republican “humor” have to enjoy the death of someone and suggesting, even in “jest” that is it okay to be glad that someone you disagree with politically is dead.

So is “Canaletto, Italian painter” (of canals, apparently) a snark name? I will punt on making gondola jokes …

Haha hover of the day: “Those aren’t her sheep. They’ve never seen herbivore.”

    Thanks, Floja Roja!

  7. How many U.S. States have you been to?

    I think 44.

How many countries have you been to?

    I think it’s 17.

    Which were your favorites?

    Italy is wonderful.

Are you good at chess? How often do you play?

I used to play a lot and got up to a rating of about 1600. Now I am much weaker than that.

Do you actually read every word of the terms and conditions for software updates and various memberships?

    You’re kidding, right?

    I must have, but I don’t remember

  8. The Gobshites Invite A Monster In

The Clinton Guy should be ashamed. ABC should be ashamed. Hell, the human race should be ashamed. Giving any further airtime to this man that doesn’t take place in front of one tribunal or another — much less, getting him on there and simply letting him spout the way ABC did — is a crime against humanity. Richard Cheney is the least excusable American human being of the last half-century. That should at least be acknowledged. More to the point, he’s mindnumbingly, crashingly stupid, less trustworthy around facts than he is around a shotgun.

He draws this conclusion about the Sunday talk shows:

Sooner or later, though, these shows are just going to drop the pretense and round up winos on the street to fill out the panels. Democracy would be much better served.
