Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Meeses

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

in wet South Florida. Did our morning dog walk with lightning off over the ocean. PETA rally today at noon over at Linda Bean’s restaurant. She was Pat Buchanan’s Maine co-chair in the 2000 Presidential race, ran twice for Congress on a homophobic platform in Portland and now she’s selling lobster a block from my place that is killed rather viciously so PETA is giving her some grief. I will gladly pitch in and hassle her about it today. The rest of the day are doctors visits and getting ready for a fundraiser/art show next week. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

    Have a good day folks!

    No obscuration whatsoever; CAVU.

About to go to the office in a bit as soon as I get on the outside of a second (or third) cup of Cajun coffee.

Speaking of which, the new 3-D seismograph imagery of Bayou Corne in Assumption Parish, LA was just published. It was conducted by the Department of Natural Resources, and not surprisingly, Texas Brine Company is arguing with the findings. As one expert put it in a presentation to the Assumption Parish Police Jury (Louisiana equivalent of a county commission), “Think of it as a seven thousand foot cliff.” There are what he called “deep sources” feeding methane gas into the sinkhole, which is where the bubbles and “burps” are coming from. This is an environmental disaster on an epic scale, even though the visible part is only a 26+ acre lake.

When I first wrote the story on the Jonathan Turley blog, the paid Koch-sucker trolls came out in force. They do that every time a story is posted on the environment. What that behavior tells me is they are not arguing from a position of strength, but one of weakness.

I’m still having some type of contact allergy as my left forearm is getting itchy again, with hives.  Wish I knew what it was so I could avoid it!!  Lots of people are having allergy issues this year with 9 weeks of no rain.

Wearing shoes again. Feels weird. It’s only 63 this morning, brrr! Mid-90s for highs, but cool mornings. Very nice.

Tomorrow morning I’ll have a diary up about the matching donations. I’ll re-work one I did before, with Magnificent as the song.

I had to set my dvr to record stuff tonight — I had forgotten about my Tuesday night class. But Joss Whedon’s show – Agents of Shield premiers tonight. It’s so weird having our (geekdom’s) poster boy be all successful & stuff. And I have to record it. Damm.

Anyway, that’s my day: work, re-writing diary, class, not watching Joss’ show live.

I complained to my young contact at The Company Which Shall Not Be Named that she was sending mysterious unclear emails (including forwarding confusing emails from the Senior Researcher, known only as SR, like M in James Bond books).

This child has been dingbatty forever and I knew she was living a frantic life and her bosses are terrible communicators but I sent the email anyway. Here’s what I got back, and I feel awful.

Just a reminder that I have tons of projects I’m overseeing, client emails, updates and other stuff so sometimes if I “forget” about a report it is not intentional, but I cannot recall everything off hand especially when I am dealing not only with [the company], kids school but a very sick mother in law in which my husband will have to leave overseas again to be with his mom. I cannot remember everything and of course why you might get a second email on the same thing.

I guess the best thing to do is not send you the emails and just email you when you can edit. I’ll make a note and this way it will avoid any confusion.

What am I supposed to do? The inept management puts this poor kid through the wringer right along with her life ‘n’ stuff. I sent her an abject apology and an attagirl. I wish I could phone her but she’s so frantic she sees me as an intrusion. Poor kid.

    heading for 75.  Beautiful autumnal weather of the “old normal” sequence.  QC last night was just as bad as I feared.  JP “we should only micromanage if I want to harass somebody” hassled the Building & Grounds guy and convinced the majority of the Court that his contingency line (where the replacement/repairs for things like roofs, HVAC, hot water heaters, etc are expensed) should be reduced by $100K and “he can just come ask for more if he needs it”.  The latter is code for “we can hassle him some more by pretending he’s incompetent for having to come ask us for more money” and I’d love to slap any JP who says it.  Except of course I wouldn’t.  We also told the IT and Animal Shelter folks to dig up more information and come back in a couple of weeks.  Logic and procedure will never trump personal animosity and politics.  I’ve got another one tonight – said JP’ll probably hassle the Coroner some more and then nit-pick every shovel full of gravel the Road Dept wants.  At least the power tools under my window have stopped.  {{{HUGS}}}

Our son returned from his three week trip to Austria and Croatia last night. I’m glad he is safely home and even happier he had so much fun!

Colorado is beginning to dry out, with deep blue skies and fall colors showing in the high country. I slept for eight hours last night, so I’m chasing my tail this morning. 🙂

My friend who wrote Cel & Anna ( http://www.amazon.com/Cel-Anna… ) has just finished her second novel. I’ve received the 74,000-word manuscript to copyedit/proofread.

Last time I copyedited an entire book it drove me right out of my mind, even though I enjoy the work. I realize now that it’s because for long documents I’m stuck in my home office, in front of the computer, for untold endless hours, doing the same thing. I need to be able to work outdoors or at Panera or Starbucks if I’m to do justice to my friend’s good work and stay sane.

I’d like to borrow a laptop, WinXP or Win7, and I have a licensed copy of Word 2003 I can load onto it. I can’t post this on Facebook or Twitter because my friend is there and I don’t want her to know I’m making this request. Does anybody Here Near DC have a laptop or a friend with a laptop I can borrow for a couple of months?

at 7am. I’ll re-do the youtube links & this one should post around 7ish.

If I get even 1 donation of $100, that’ll be fabulous

Another beautiful day here in Dupont country. And now I’m happily sitting with the computer on one leg, and a cat on the other. Both warm, but only the cat purrs and smiles at me.

Still smiling after last night’s Facebook fun.
