Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

next week we will get normal August weather here in the Hudson Valley.

My prayers go out to those folks who are now homeless due to Idaho wildfires, and also for those caught in the death and turmoil in Egypt.

bouts of rain later this afternoon.

Egypt still worries me. It is really sad to see the loss of so many lives. I still think they could have resolved their differences via dialog.

The Brotherhood is likely facing a ban now.

Going to be a cool day, perfect for jellymaking. The cats have decided it’s a perfect day to lounge on the bed, snuggling in the Cookie Monster blanket. It’s blue and fuzzy, but has no googly eyes. Must fix that. 😉

I suppose I should get some coffee down the hatch, else I’ll be joining them. Bed is warm and comfy.

It’s 65 right now, the high today – and for the rest of the week – is supposed to be only 98.

I’m eating breakfast, watching Up. They’re talking about being post-post partisan.

Beans are cooking, I’ll let them cool while I’m at church. Got other stuff to cook this afternoon. So today: church & cooking. That’s my normal Sunday.

Oh – and the new a/c works great.

Foggy again today but is predicted to burn off and give us our warmest day since July Fourth weekend, which would be really wonderful. A foretaste of our real summer, which begins next month.

If the weather is indeed nice today I’ll be in Golden Gate Park at the weekly band concert. 🙂

of my daughter washing dishes.  😉  she said last night that there weren’t “enough” dishes to wash yet and she would do it in the morning.

72f here, heading to the mid 90f’s by mid-afternoon.

3,000 Harleys drove up the pass yesterday for a POW/MIA rally in Cripple Creek. Many of them have never ridden in the mountains before, yet over half weren’t wearing helmets – including the ones who missed turns and laid their bikes down. Maybe next time they won’t wear flip-flops when they ride. [cranky nurse sighs]

Time to make coffee and chase the cat down for his eye drops.

So my family are all safe in their own homes this morning, the towels are washed, no little kids are in bed with me, and no big kids are laughing and drinking coffee…..a very quiet house this morning!

It was a busy 10 days of visiting family filling our life.
