Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

Today is senior freebie day at the County Fair. My group was planning to meet at 9:30 at the shuttle bus to the fairgrounds up the street. Whoopee, I get to go out and do something besides go to the grocery store for a change.

But no. Forecast is heavy rain all day.

here in the Hudson Valley of NY

Survived the weekend of guest visitation and Monday clean-up exhaustion. Took a keyboard timeout, and came back to discover at Orange – chaos CT, dueling sock-puppet debates and a dastardly attack on TomP from the same asshat who posted by bogus GBCW diary from a username that looked like mine.

    Geez.

    Some things never change 🙂

Am still tired – am getting too old for a lot of company.  No rest for me though – have to head out later to buy a new hot water heater for my barn/studio.  “The Perils of Plumbing”, should be the title of a book for homeowners.

    Sigh.

Was elated to see the decision on Stop and Frisk in NYC, which will be the BKos topic today. Glad to see Adept  posted it here when it broke.

Also good baby steps from AG Holder on drug arrests/sentences

but so much more needs to be done about criminal justice drug policy reform.

off to get some more coffee to hopefully get me moving a bit faster.

Blue skies, but rain predicted today.

That’s actually okay by me.  While I do water the garden as needed, the trees by me really have suffered from lack of rain.  A couple of spritzes that barely make it through the canopy isn’t enough!

I just hope the humidity lets up.  It’sreally gross outside.

morrrrrnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiig to all. Am going away tomorrow for three and a half weeks so I want my wishes to last until I come back. May not check in tomorrow because of anxiety and packing frenzy. Am leaving you all in charge of everything! Have fun.

66 degrees and rainy here in the Shenandoah Valley. Headed for a high of 84 (and still rainy).

Overslept this morning, but it’s all good. Hubs (trs) woke me at 6:33 and I walked in the door of my office at 6:59. A shower might have been missed along the way, but a hat covers a multitude of sins and I didn’t do anything to get too smelly yesterday.

    Ah well.

birthday, too.  He’s asked for steak and french fries for dinner.  I’ll make the oven fries myself–that way they’ll taste good and they won’t be loaded with fat.

Must get to the gym this morning! Denise, hope you get to feeling better.  Sounds as if you’ve been through an exhausting time.  We don’t entertain much any more except at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and then it’s basically the family.

Where are Jim and Melanie these days?  Are they on holiday?  Portlaw, hope you have a wonderful time!

Will today be the day I finally finish that book review?  I wish it would, because I can feel a short story coming on.

    Everyone have a good day!

in the upper 70’s.  Aside from the lack of rain these past 2 months, the weather has been really nice this summer.

Woke up to much thunder and heavy rain. Had coffee, but now that the storm has passed, I’m considering a return to snoozedom.

    I feel like this:

    Surveying Domain

  9. Hot and humid and the sky is getting real dark. No wonder Pixie is whining.

Taking it easy today. Asthma is kicking up because of this stupid weather.

Finished this last night. I love the way the colors came out.

    cuz I haz lots to do and might not make it at all if I wait – open enrollment starts next week.  At the moment I have some seats in the evening sections of the intro class, some seats in a junior-level class, and a few seats in a couple of senior-level electives (and the only reason I have those is they are “consent” classes and the students can’t enroll themselves).  So I am dealing with panic-stricken students trying to find classes who think that if they tell me they’re graduating seniors I’ll put them in whatever classes they want.  NOT!  (I suppose they think I don’t check.  Sorry kid, if you aren’t within 18 hours of graduation, you’re not a graduating senior.)  Tenure review process for a professor, Fall faculty meeting preparation, replacing the P-card (someone used it without asking first – legitimate purchase – and the Chair said “change the card”), 2nd draft of Spring class schedule… (and that doesn’t even count the chiropractor appt this afternoon).  I hope everybody has a good day.  {{{HUGS}}}

maybe down to 98 on Thursday

Got blood drawn. And it turns out I don’t have to go back in 2 hours. But I hadn’t eaten, so I’m home, eating, then I’ll go to work. Richard Engel is on MSNBC, yay.

Today: eat, go to work – I’ll end up parking on the roof, dammit, maybe my T/Th workout group.

I found a temporary fix for my connection woes. Turns out the trouble is with my pesky wi-fi router so I just disconnected it and got connected again.

Less foggy today and there’s even a wee bit of sunshine poking through.
