Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the Weather Critter Comment are still welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

The Recommended list, defined:

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture.

– The Rec list algorithm, per Kysen:

The Rec List is based upon number of recs and number of days on the list.

The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

Don’t use the Recommendation button as a ‘I read this and I like it’ indicator….you can say that in the comments and by rating the comments contained within the diary.

– Per me:

… any post that reflects our values and gets us to think about who we are and our place in the world is valuable to progressives.

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

going up to 93. Am dreaming of snow, snow, snow.  Have a great day, Meese. Let’s hope that all the news will be good news.

74f now, so i opened up the house to cool off.  92f today.  and it’s stormy again today.

Dunno what the temp is but seems moderate. Nats tweets say the team will swelter in heat and humidity in this afternoon’s game.

high today 91 here in sticky, muggy Hudson Valley NY.

Bleary-eyed this morning. Got home around 1:30AM.

I’m beginning to wonder when we are going to get a string of days without rain.

heading towards the mid to high 90s today. Grace is growing up every day, she’s even beginning to make friends with our old dog. I spend a whole lot of my day sitting with critters while they eat since each of them are on a different feeding schedule. As Grace grows she’ll be able to get on the same schedule as the old dog but right now she needs to eat more often. I have a busy day planned hoping to finish up the last of my projects for the baby shower so I can start baking macaroons tomorrow. I like to get my baking done early in the mornings before the heat sets in, seems to work better that way.

here last night but an easy run to the store this morning turned out to be anything but.  All but one of the traffic signals were out and the one which was working was stuck.  So used my alternate route on the return and police cars had it blocked off.  There was a repair crew of some sort in a cherry picker blocking the road.  Almost home at an intersection with working lights when an ambulance came out of nowhere scaring the fool out of everyone waiting for the light to change.  Think I’ll have a lie down…..

Eating breakfast, watching Up. They’re talking about gerrymandering & the Voting Rights Act. And watching Le Tour.

Got beans simmering, I’ll cook them till time to go to church, then let them cool off while I’m gone. This afternoon, I’ll make a salad with soba noodles, cucumber, mango & bell pepper. so that’ll be my afternoon. And preparing mentally to go back to work for the first time since last Wednesday.

I had a great visit with my classmate, Teresa, but was disappointed to find out I was wrong and that her contract to teach in the middle east runs another two years.  At least it gives her partner time to try to resolve his immigration issues.  Otherwise they’ll have to maintain dual residence, staying here no more than 1/2 of each year.  I’m still baffled about our quota for immigrants from the Netherlands being so low (Roughly 10,000 Nederlanders have current permanent visa applications pending, of whom about 1% will be drawn by lottery).  It’s not as if we have a crush of Dutch citizens pressing against our borders.  And, dare I say it, they’re white enough to satisfy even the most rabid tea partier.

It was a great evening nonetheless spent at a pizza parlor that was one of our old high school haunts, and the guy should be granted a visa if, for no other reason that he sat with such grace through our reminiscences of people he’s never met and places that mean nothing to him.

I don’t have everything ready for Sunday Mass, so I’m going to have to go in early.  I’ll stick around here for another cup of coffee first.  I’m having brunch with a few of our regular communicants this afternoon.  One is vegan, and we have no restaurants that fill that bill in our little burg.  So, I have no idea where I’m being taken.

The mountains are a great place to spend the July 4th weekend.

Heading back to the city today…long drive, hot CA Central Valley today, up to 100 on the highway.

Time for breakfast on the left coast!

  10. We’ve stepped out of the furnace in S. Cal. and the weather has moved to a nice pattern of morning clouds that burn off to a nice 90 degree day by 11.

The President of the United States proposed we change our fear soaked war footing, instead a grifter decided we’d talk on a 5 year old story.  Yes there is a reason why ending the perpetual war state and all the money attached to it got quieted by a BS Greenwald story. Greenwald the same dude who supported W’s national security.  It’s because the MSM and Greenwald are part of the racist 1% elite of Koch. Same successful tactics the Dudebros ran to depress 2010 turnout, so my question is why do people and places home of failure have voice.  The tactic of COINTELPRO is to promote a rat to a voice of authority within your movement then let the rat loose.  That’s why a man with no degrees got 122K jobs with hooked into the racist 1% network defense contractors. What do the Tea Party right and the DudeBro used to be Republican now “progressive” left? have in common?  Both can call PBO Hitler.  I just wish it were more slick, something new.  It is pissing me off the same tired CON that’s been run on America for 40 years.

They’ve re-hatched Jim Crow and a rat done probed my sister Nell, and Whitey’s scared of drones.

Spent an hour digging up weeds.  Going to put newsprint down tomorrow and cover it with mulch to keep the weeds/grass from growing back.  Why this didn’t occur to me sooner I don’t know since I work at a freakin’ newspaper!  >.<  Better late than never, though.

And why, you may ask, don’t I do this today?  Because some of us have to work.  🙁

We’ll get up to 76° IF the sun comes out. (At this altitude, no sun = no heat.) Jim Bob is chattering at Khloe about her having the nerve to run the vacuum. 🙂

  13. Poor Pixie. She hates thunderstorms and all we have had for weeks is thunderstorms and they are going to be going on all week again.

I sure hope Gaia is looking out after this poor fragile North Carolina because our idiot Governor and Legislature is looking after no one but the rich who paid for their elections. The people and land are getting screwed!

either in toto (This ain’t Kansas) nor even in part.  Rather, I “fierce” any reasonable argument presented with civility, which around here means I “fierce” pretty much everything I read.

Little baby Liam next door is screaming, otherwise it’s still peace and quiet in L.A. Oops, spoke too soon. There is now a helicopter added to the mix.

The weather widgets have the temp maxing between 79-82. The mild humidity is sticking around.

The 1 1/2 year old kittens (still not fully grown) are taking advantage of the morning coolness and expending some of their energy before it gets too hot. Some day they will do nothing but sleep all day, and I will be hard pressed to remember the current frantic antics.

I got everything but the Tweets done for my F Bombs this week. I think the hovers may not be up to snuff, but it’s hard work! I need a hover-writing staff.

My only remaining obligations for the day are to get laundry done, make dinner (Thai Massaman Curry) and watch True Blood. Nice!

hoping to convince the little one to go on a bike ride…maybe a little yard work…or just taking it easy.
