Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the Weather Critter Comment are still welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

The Recommended list, defined:

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture.

– The Rec list algorithm, per Kysen:

The Rec List is based upon number of recs and number of days on the list.

The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

Don’t use the Recommendation button as a ‘I read this and I like it’ indicator….you can say that in the comments and by rating the comments contained within the diary.

– Per me:

… any post that reflects our values and gets us to think about who we are and our place in the world is valuable to progressives.

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

the Moose archipelago. It’s 78 going up to 93. November is coming. November is coming. November is…….. Hope it’s a good day for all.

with thunderstorms here in the Hudson Valley of NY.

Thankfully, when it isn’t raining I will be in my friends swimming pool today which should help beat the heat.

    Enjoy your day.

It’s still supposed to edge near or past 90° for a high, but at least we’re getting relief from the spate of round-the-clock roasting.

My client who I mentioned having “fired” me thought better of it and showed back up yesterday.  He’s still going to have to sort through some unpleasant consequences of recent decisions, but I’m happy he’s decided that giving up is not an option.

The high school friend I was going to meet for supper on the 4th ended up having to postpone to this evening.  I’m anxious to see her.  It’s always good to catch up with her.

Hope all my moose-type folk are having a great weekend.

74* here in a dry North Texas with a high expected to hit somewhere in the upper 90s.

Hope all are well and have the day they want to have.

We’ll probably get closer to our normal upper 90s today. Sigh.

Eating breakfast, watching Up and Le Tour. Got to finish the front porch, take the recycling out (it’s all the way across the parking lot, I don’t know why I let it build up so) and map out my grocery trip. This is the quarterly 10% off trip, so – black beans, quinoa……. got to stock up.

Going to go by Goodwill & see if there are any shirts with orange in the print. I don’t want to wear just a plain orange shirt to work every single day next week. But apparently the anti-choicers will be out every day. sigh.

Woke up early today but am trying very hard not to be grumpy about it.

Weather is foggy this morning with predicted high only in the upper 50s.

planned for today except, maybe, putting together my check list for the September move.  Y’all have a great week-end!

this morning, it should all burn off before noon and heat up to the mid to high 90s this afternoon. We have a slow weekend planned, it’s nice here since so many folks went somewhere for the holiday.

Our first round of visitors arrive this afternoon so if Bellingham Bay stays as calm and flat as it is now RonK should be able to take them for a boat ride…and I’ll have time for a nap!

We’ll go out to dinner tonight, then come back here for dessert. I’m making a gluten free, low glycemic lemon pound cake that is actually very tasty, especially when served with fresh raspberries and whipped cream.

  10. My little Pixie is 8 today. She was my Mom’s kitty. Mom would have been 84 and decided that Pixie needed to share her birthday. Miss Mom but I kept my promise to take good care of her kitty.

Pixie gave me a birthday present this morning and let me sleep in. Currently she is still dozing while I await the Buttery Caramel Coffee to finish brewing. Love the Archers Farm coffee that Target sells. Great flavors.

So Happy Birthday Pixster. Glad you enjoy “your” Community Quilt and unicorn. 😉

Another beautiful day half way up. Abernathy tells me that it’s an early afternoon kitty nap sort of day.

    On an unrelated note……

So far it has been a pretty day, but I have not felt like getting out and doing things.

I am supposed to write a story for the Turley Blog. I have been planning to write a series on strong women, especially ones who were shining stars in aviation. I like and am drawn to strong, competent, smart and accomplished women. After all, I was married to one for 55 years. A friend of mine died last year; Sabrina “Sib” Jackintell. If I have time, I will cross post here. She deserves it.
