Monday September 14, 2009: The Day in Tubes

I e-mailed Versusplus about two weeks ago.

Dear Marcy,

I might be a pest, but I wrote an email and posted on your YouTube comments that I would love to see a new song about the freakshow anti health care reform. In the mean time, would it be possible to re-post “Heartless” and “It’s a Bird” on YouTube. They seem ever so relevant today.

Best wishes on your continued success,

Hollede

Much to my pleasure, “Heartless” was posted again on YouTube today. Is this because of my letter? Hell yes!!!;~P Ok, maybe not, but I am so happy to post this here for all of you.

My pleasure (and rage) grew even more when I saw this posted by BraveNewFilms. In my honest opinion, Cigna is downright evil. Suffice it to say, they have done their best to ruin my life for profit. Yes, this is personal.

Hey, it is all about me, right;~?

The pace will pick up on the Health Care debate as we get closer to Thanksgiving…

To start with, PhARMA, the big pharmaceuticals lobby, is spending 12 million bucks right now on ads promoting the Baucus bill, and they’ve set aside a total of 150 million bucks for the rest of the campaign. This is part of the 80 billion that the industry has pledged over ten years to reduce pharmaceutical costs ( although how this 12 million reduces costs, I don’t know… surely they will find a way to bill this expense to the consumer.)

Health Care Reform is a "Women's Issue"

Really, it’s everyone’s issue: The health care crisis in this country affects all of us, even those fortunate enough to have coverage. But when it comes to health care and dealing with insurance companies, there are special concerns for women, especially if they are buying insurance through the individual market. Some of those concerns vary by state, making them all the more confusing, and unfortunately, a lot of women are unaware of these issues until they run into difficulties. Federal laws provide certain protections for women who receive insurance through their employers, but women purchasing insurance through the individual market face unique problems. They face institutionalized sexism in the form of higher costs, shoddy plans riddled through with gender-based exceptions, and denial of coverage based on a “preexisting condition” that may surprise some of you.

Clear and Present Danger

According to recent reports from the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are clear signs of a resurgence in the virulent “Patriot” movement–a broad coalition of previously autonomous and loosely related anti-government paramilitary militias, anti-tax rebels, “sovereign citizens”, and so-called Constitutionalists–thought to have reached its zenith in the 1990s.

Photobucket

An inverted flag is a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

Catalyzed by shifting demographic trends toward Caucasian minorities and the fringe conspiracy theories that are increasingly disseminated by mainstream media figures like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Michael Savage, and others, the anti-government movement is growing all across the United States. Feeding this extremism are the same usual radical ideologies, radical religious beliefs, pent-up anger, and frustration that can lead to violence-from ‘lone wolf’ hate crimes to acts of mass-casualty domestic terrorism.

9/12 Open Thread

Today crowds of protesters have gathered in Washington, DC to voice opposition to the current administration.  Early reports show a large turnout.  The event is primarily related to TV talk-show host Glen Beck and the “9/12” movement that he has encouraged.

No doubt this event will be the catalyst for significantly heated commentary from both ends of the political spectrum.  For my part I will be interested in both the actions of the more extreme protesters as well as the (hopefully common) more average folks.

Happy Anniversary

On September 10, 2008 a new creature was born into the world.  Like all newborns it was very similar to those of its kind who had come before it.  Also like all newborns it was in ways slightly unique, bringing into the universe something that had never precisely existed before.  A new creature of kind, slightly changed from the mold of its forebearers.  Evolved in modest ways it came into the world on wobbly legs with a subtly different set of aspirations, seeking a niche as yet unexploited.

Today, this Motley Moose begins its second year of life.

Friday September 11, 2009: The Day in Tubes

Warning! I am sick and irreverent. I wonder how many times I will need to post that warning? Knowing me, rather often I am certain.

That being said, the Onion has a unique idea of how to commemorate 9/11.

An Onion a day helps keeps the blindness away.

I have seen this tube before, and did not realize that it had been censored on YouTube. It seems appropriate to revisit today.

I am still angry at the bush pseudo administration for almost destroying the United States of America and our Constitution.

It may take (a duly elected and actual) President Obama a while to fix the mess the bushies created.
