Thursday September 17, 2009: The Day in Tubes (Oh no, it's not really Thursday?!)

I am afraid I got a bit goofy Thursday and ended up with an all toon set of tubes. Then Ani and I ended up spending a bit of quality time together after a very tough week, so I missed my own deadline.

However, I liked the tubes so much I decided to post them anyway, even though they are a couple of days late. Please forgive my tardiness, but decided time spent with one’s girlfriend takes priority:~D

First off, Headzup exposes Lumpybag’s views on racism.

All republicans should be sooooo proud of their de facto leader!

Headzup caught a bit of news I missed.

Oh Nancy, say it ain’t so…

Back to making fun of republicans. This is one of the more extraordinary commercials I have ever seen.

Jesus hates me because I am a Democrat? Oh noes..

"You lie!" (And They Did)

I just couldn’t pass this up — the clip is too good to miss. This afternoon, in a segment headed, “YOUR FACTS ARE WRONG…AGAIN,” CNN’s Rick Sanchez tore Fixed News a new asshole, and it was a thing of beauty. It appears that Fox thought it would be a good idea to take out a full page color ad in the Washington Post, alleging that the other major media outlets (including CNN) failed to cover the (embarrassing, hysterical) 9/12 Tea Party protest in DC:

Bill to Remove Insurance Industry's Anti-Trust Exemption Introduced – Open Thread

As Navy Blue Wife explained in her excellent diary, the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945 holds an anti-trust exemption allowing individual states to regulate insurance companies instead of the Federal government. However, this same Act also states that so long as the state regulates the industry, the federal anti-trust laws will not be applicable. This has given the Health Insurance Industry an unfettered market in which to expand, unchecked by the laws that prevent other businesses from monopolizing. This has led to decades of actions by the Insurance industry that, without that exemption, would be in violation of federal law. The end result is higher cost to the customer.

ACORN: It Isn't What It Seems

Or maybe it is.

I agree with Glenn Greenwald, and I usually don’t, that there’s a double standard here and Blackwater, Halliburton should also be looked at under the same microscope as ACORN, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that they really stepped in it.

…and I agree with Glenn Beck that this organization has a lot of problems.

Lions, Tigers and Bears! Oh My!

I’m working late tonight on a critical issues analysis for a wind farm project in (where else?) Kansas {laugh track}.  So for a little distraction/break I pop over to facebook, and the status message for some girl I went to high school with catches my eye.

Something wicked this way comes.

You know, the kind of ‘friend’ you only just barely recollect, but accept their ‘add’ request to avoid the guilt of denying them.  Hey, they were obviously kind enough to remember you, right?  Anyway, from some of the things on her wall (e.g. Sarah Palin supporter, consistent negative votes in Obama related polls, and lots of Jesus bling) I can safely gather that she’s probably a Republican.  Oddly, this 12-second recon of her online persona tells me more about her than I’ve ever known.

Daily Tubes for September 15 & 16, 2009

Headzup landed an exclusive interview with President Obama. I was so pleased that they were able to get him to really open up.

Oh don’t I wish he could actually go there.

The Onion has breaking international news!

OMFG. I just totally offended myself! WTF is wrong with me? I actually adore Hillary Clinton. And yet I still found the bit pretty funny. I wonder why?

President Carter has some thoughts on the tea baggers and anti Obama protesters.

I do believe that racism is a strong undercurrent flowing through the freak show we have been witnessing over these past several months.

For those who are not racist, you shame yourselves by allowing these nut bags a place in your movement.

The Smearing of TIFF & Attempt To Silence Art.

This 2009 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has been shrouded in controversy this week after a variety of film makers, actors, academics, and activists signed and released a statement called the “Toronto Declaration: No Celebration of Occupation” alleging amongst other things that the Festival:

has become complicit in the Israeli propaganda machine.

The protesters loose claims stem from the Festival’s selection of Tel Aviv for it’s City to City Program which showcases 10 films by local filmmakers. In its inaugural year, “the goal of City to City is to take a closer look at global cities through a cinematic lens, especially cities where film contributes to or chronicles social change in compelling ways.”

Fanning the Flames of Racism: Open Thread

There has been enough talk about the possible racial motivations behind some portion of the Tea Bag Express to warrant an Open Thread starting with the basic questions:

How much do you think race is behind the opposition furor?  What do you think could/might be done to counteract these underlying drivers?
