P is for Petulant

I watched Senator Clinton’s speech this evening on MSNBC with my eight month-old daughter on my knee. She was in an especially good mood tonight, happy and bubbly. It was an outstanding moment I had with her, considering school has started again- another thing to balance along with trying to bring in enough income to keep our family afloat and deal with the dynamics of our relationship with my daughter’s mother.

At times, I had to supress my urge to get up and pump my fist in the air. The baby was giggly and kept laughing out loud; of course, she didn’t know what was going on, but it fit the mood. I finally saw through any of the accumulated bitterness I’d saved over from the Primary season at Senator Clinton; I saw a true precedent and hope for my daughter, that she could truly follow in the footsteps of this woman and become the President of the United States someday, if she wanted to.

One bit from her speech stuck in my mind, in particular, and of course you’re probably familiar with it:

Those are the reasons I ran for president and that is the reason I support Barack Obama. Were you in it for me or were you in it for that young Marine…or were you in it for that young boy and his mom surviving on the minimum wage…were you in it for those who are invisible.

My intrigue was piqued at that one. Here was a totally unequivocal statement in support of Senator Obama, and disavowing the PUMA movement, all five-dozen of ’em. I broke my months-long “strike” I had on visiting PUMA sites, and ventured into the abyss.

Do you think I was surprised by what I found?

This is Awesome!

Wow. The site is amazing. I am so impressed with everything that has been accomplished over the past couple weeks. Today is the first time I have seen Motley Moose, as I have been a bit out of the world lately, dealing with a number of difficult personal issues. I am also a total troglodyte when it comes to computers, so am grateful I  found a link provided. Now I can post here, as the amazing moderators have greased the wheels to let me slip in with this motley group.

I have kind of left myself out of the loop lately, but am VERY interested in being a part of this venture. I do not have much to offer beyond my opinions, insight, and writing ability. But these, I will give to this project, freely and with tremendous energy. I am also certain that I will learn how to use the scary machine better.

One other thing that I think I can bring to MM is an ability to work with people I disagree with and possess the skill of being able to see many sides of an issue. I worked as a social worker for eight years, and had to work with the most difficult clients imaginable. I was very good at this. As long as we listen to each other and treat each other with respect, I know we will get along. But more than that, I believe that we can elevate the discussion and contribute something unique to the blogosphere. I will not always agree with everyone here, but I will work very hard to be a grown up at all times.

Go Girl

Hillary is a stud! (In the most feminine sense of the word, of course)

This chick* is a powerhouse, and will be front and center for the next 8 years.

This is her night, and her intro for the leadership of the Senate.

Hillary for majority leader in 2010, (it’s gonna take awhile for Reid to see the handwriting on the wall).

*ed note:  Disclaimer: The US government is responsible for any residual sexism that is inferred from any of my statements.

How can you not love Rachel Maddow?

This woman is awesome. Her new show on MSNBC should be a huge success among progressive viewers. We are gaining a really strong voice for progressive politics.

I give Keith Olberman much credit for helping her get where she is on MSNBC. I view him as her mentor there. It says a lot about him that he isn’t threatened by such a strong-willed, intelligent woman.

Ted Kennedy

I don’t have the words composed for this yet and don’t think I will for a while.  I was born after John died and while Bobby was still alive.  Tonight I watched the last great moment of the brothers that defined the modern era, the men that my the biggest difference in my young parents’ world and, though I did not know it, my own childhood.

Pat Buchanan is officialy in teh engels territory

So I’m watching MSNBC (of course) and all the heavyweights are on the air. Of course, the biggest heavyweight of them all (no pun intended) has to be Pat Buchanan.

Pat has become the crazy old uncle who you don’t take seriously but still listen to what he has to say for the comedy factor.

Pat is officialy in teh engels territory. A selfparody of such proportions that you can’t help but feel sorry for the guy. Everytime he opens his mouth I am just in awe of his wit and incredible insight on everything that has to do with the Democratic party.

I love me some Maddow and even she is laying off Pat. Rachel Maddow just wipes the floor with him every single time. It’s come to the point that I actually like him. His work as a surrogate is so pathetic now that he’s better than 10 Democratic strategists combined.

Pat Buchanan might be a racist tool but damnit, he’s TEH racist tool.

Anyways, don’t know if people are hanging out here tonight but if you are, consider this a Democratic Convention open thread…

P.S. It’s a Multi Vote Poll by the way….

Circle for Peace

This evening, after a great supper at the Mercury Cafe (witchy, hippy hangout, great food, well worth visiting when you’re next in Denver), I had the privilege of attended a Circle for Peace in Downtown Denver.

As someone far more used to holding ritual surrounded by trees, I’ll admit I had a few misgivings. How could we create the same feeling of closeness to Nature in a downtown parking lot? No problem. If the people involved truly believe in Peace, and in each other….if those in the circle connect with Nature as it exists in that parking lot, the circle just might work.

And so it did.

BREAKING- Clinton expected to release delegates Wednesday

Wow! Hot off the AP Wire:

DENVER – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, hoping to unite the Democratic Party and cement her future in it, will gather her hard-won primary delegates Wednesday at a reception where she is expected to formally release them to Barack Obama.

Clinton has invited her pledged delegates to a reception at the Colorado Convention Center, not far from the main Democratic National Convention arena.

The high-profile gathering of political regulars who once fought against Obama serves a dual purpose for Clinton: Show fellow Democrats that she can be a team player, and display her still-formidable political strengths for the future. Many of her supporters want her to run for president again.

A Democratic official told The Associated Press Sunday, a day before the convention begins, that she is expected to release her delegates at the Wednesday event. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss details publicly.

Is this true? What’s the skinny on this one?
