The Anchorage Daily News has endorsed Barack Obama for president. The paper acknowledges that after 50 years of statehood, Alaska for the first time has put forward a serious candidate for national office and calls Palin’s nomination for vice president “a signal event” in the state’s history.

Colin Powell Endorses Obama
This morning Republican former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell and former Secretary of State endorsed Barack Obama for president.
“He has met the standard of being an exceptional president.” Powell said. “He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure.”
“The Record” Endorses a Democrat for the First Time in 72 Years
For the first time since FDR, The Record casts its endorsement for a Democrat, Barack Obama. The Record is a newspaper covering Calaveras and Lockeford/Clements County (home of my birthplace – Stockton, CA).
The unanimous decision was made by our editorial board, which consists of Publisher Roger W. Coover, Managing Editor Donald W. Blount, Opinion Page Editor Eric Grunder, Human Resources Director Sandi Johnson and me (Mike Klocke – Editor).
