Dead As (a) DOMA?

Today, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued its order finding that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act — the federal definition of marriage — is unconstitutional in Golinski v. Office of Personnel Management, Karen Golinski’s challenge to the denial of her request for equal health insurance benefits for her wife. http://www.metroweekly.com/pol…

“Obama 2012 ~ Because the Other Side is Nuts”

I stole that from John Cole and I hope he doesn’t mind.  But he’s hardly alone in thinking it.

… the GOP is intellectually stagnant. To disagree with the dominant GOP zeitgeist is tantamount to heresy. Everyone must toe the hard-right line of religious conservatives who ignore not only science but also obvious realities.

That’s from a Republican ~ a self-professed member of the “rational wing of the Republican Party.”  They exist but, particularly if Rick Santorum is the GOP presidential nominee, they may vote in some number for the Democratic nominee because, as was the case with Mr. Cole and Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, the Republican Party left them.

Ladies and Gentlemen ~ The Surge Is On

Last week Public Policy Polling teased their latest polling by tweeting that Rick Santorum had taken the lead nationally.  Today that information was formally released.

Rick Santorum has opened up a wide lead in PPP’s newest national poll. He’s at 38% to 23% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Newt Gingrich, and 13% for Ron Paul.

38% doesn’t strike me as a ringing endorsement but it beats the other guys.  But what’s driving these numbers?  Is it simply Santorum’s rather surprising beat-down of his competition last Tuesday?

Mind Your Own Damned Business

Or, get out of my relationship, my bedroom and/or my uterus.

I’m tired.  I’m tired of people who don’t know me trying to tell me what to do because of something he or she believes.

Why do people care so much who I sleep with?  Who I marry?  What I do with my body?  It’s my f*cking life and I should have some damn choice.  And it is getting to the point where I’m going to reach into my computer screen and choke the crap out of the next sanctimonious, smug jerkwad who tells me that I should be forced to carry the product of a rape.  I’m going to toss my smartphone out the window the next time someone tells me same-sex marriage is ruining this country.

I Got Nothin'

This is more painful than Gov. Perry’s inability to remember the third federal agency he’d like to cut.

Oh Yippee! Another GOP Debate (Open Thread)

This time they’ve decided to let Gary Johnson participate.

I think conventional wisdom has this as Perry versus Romney with a bit of “let’s see who can get the most Tea Party cheers” from Bachmann, Cain, and Santorum while Huntsman tries to look moderate and 2016ish.

Given that this is a FoxNews/Google (to be streamed live on Youtube) debate the questions might be more interesting than the answers although I find this social media questioning too gimmicky.

Myself, I’m wondering if Ron Paul will be pressed on his former campaign manager’s debt-ridden death (he was asked about it earlier this week so it isn’t outside the realm of possibility) or Rick Perry on either Social Security and/or Troy Davis (as in would you lose any sleep over the possibility of executing an innocent man).

The show circus starts at 9:00pm Florida time.  In the meantime feel free to talk among yourselves.

The End

September 20, 2011 ends the era of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

We can argue process or procedure.  We can argue the meaning of “fierce advocate.”  We can even argue whether celebrating the military in any form or fashion is appropriate.

Some other time.

For now, I wish we would appreciate what we have instead of how we got here.

Even if only for today.
