Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

have to spend half the day on campus in a faculty meeting.

Would rather stay home and play with the puppy 🙂

Morning, Meese! Feeling freaked out because whereas it rained all around us yesterday, and whereas we heard thunder and saw lightning, not a drop of rain did we receive. I had to threaten Hubby with No Dinner unless he waters the garden, front and back. Everything looks parched.

We’re having a splash party  over here this afternoon for Miss Pink Cheeks and her cousin, who is a year younger. I’ll be glad to see the weekend because I am feeling my advanced age.

Another freaky thing is the anti-Hillary diaries over at orange. I won’t even read them any more. Let me state that if she runs I intend to vote for her. Hope that doesn’t get me banned from Moosylvania!

That Missing Airliner is back in the news this morning. Now they’re saying it flew on autopilot until it ran out of fuel, then spiraled down into the sea. That took four minutes. I keep wondering what it was like on that plane and whether the passengers knew what was happening. Hope they didn’t. I don’t know why the thought of those lost souls on board haunts me but it does.

The Wendy Davis thing last night was fun. I was really pleased to see how few people I knew (lots of new blood). I left early because my feet hurt, but I met the political director for Battleground Texas & promised to wrote a diary about the event. He said they’d have lots of of pictures I could appropriate for it. And I’m working on an AIDS Walk diary. When I heard the Snow patrol song Lifening, I knew I needed to use it for a Walk diary.

Mid-90s & rain today. Yay for rain.

  4. I will put the liveblog up at about 9:30am. I included some commentary on yesterdays two big cases so that there is something to read. 🙂

Today, court watchers are expecting at least one big case, possibly Canning, the recess appointment case.

I am watching Coakley closely. I expect that the court will declare us a Post-Clinic-Violence Nation and decide that buffer zones are no longer needed. I will say right here that such a ruling would tick me off a lot. Clinic violence is not some academic exercise in Massachusetts … people were killed there. It is not okay with me to make the buffer smaller when there is a history of violence. Worse, they are expecting Alito to write the opinion and his smirk irritates me no end.

Methodist pastor’s reinstatement may be appealed

the church’s prosecutor was contemplating an appeal to the Judicial Council, its highest appeals body. That step would extend the national attention on a debate over same-sex marriage in the United Methodist Church, and could deepen divides within the denomination.

    “could” deepen??? could deepen…… yeah

My day started fast and fun with three grand kids piling into bed with me. They are giggling in “the boys room” down the hall now, and after lunch we’ll take them and their bikes to the park. The older kids can ride the trail to another park but I’ll keep Ava (6yrs old) closer.

    yesterday we were supposed to be sunny and fairly warm (upper 80s) and instead by mid afternoon we had rain and upper 60s.  (I baked cookies last night.)  So far today we’ve got relatively (mid 80s) hot and muggy – with chance of rain again this afternoon.  Work met me at the door this morning and this is the first time I’ve had a few minutes to drop by and check in.  Hope things are going well in Moosylvania.  {{{HUGS}}}
