Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

I really need to grab my camera and get pics of all the daffodils which came up later than usual this year

Saw this story linked at orange – Bundy opens mouth again – this time discussing negroes

He said he would continue holding a daily news conference; on Saturday, it drew one reporter and one photographer, so Mr. Bundy used the time to officiate at what was in effect a town meeting with supporters, discussing, in a long, loping discourse, the prevalence of abortion, the abuses of welfare and his views on race.

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids – and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch – they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

So, despite it being warm enough for capris & sandals, I’m in long pants & birks, because – compression socks. Wow, my ankles are big.

Got to start getting stuff together for Saturday. Air up tires – should have gotten a tune up for the bike, but there’s not enough time now. Put a towel on the trunk & put the bike rack on.  Friday night, I’ll change my goal on my fundraising page, so I’m not so spectacularly short. Been listening to my race day mix, even though I’m not going to ride very far, so it won’t be the epic physical challenge that calls for music in my head. But — U2 – Big Girls Are Best

Later, I’ll get to the business of not meeting that definition, but right now, I just need to tend to the task at hand.

here in Northern Virginia. Ugh, I hate wind. It makes me not want to go outdoors to weed, plant onions, water the peppers, etc.

It’s so nice to be here this morning!  Miss Pink Cheeks was unusually cooperative today and actually eager to get to day care for once. They’re going on a field trip today. So I delivered her and got home a full half-hour earlier.

JanF, thanks for the laugh at the top of the page, about the dog not wanting to eat bad grammar! I fully sympathize.

And isn’t that Bundy incredible?  I mean, really, he’s a throwback to the 19th century!  Where do these people get their ideas of entitlement? A great many males seem to feel that way, especially old Caucasian males.

Thinking about a blog that’s coming to a slow boil. Need to do some research and find some linkies before I post it, though.

Driving back after dropping off Miss Pink Cheeks, suddenly began to get a handle on Scene 2 of the Beltane story. That story has been dormant while I attended to other things but it’s starting to wake up, and a good thing too–Beltane is a week away!

Everyone have a good, and, it’s to be hoped, not too chilly day!

Inspector STILL isn’t back from vacation, dammit!  Saw my first hummingbird today – I hung the feeder out over the weekend and noticed the level was dropping, but hadn’t actually seen one until this morning (6:50 CDT should anybody be keeping track).  The crazy continues but I haven’t checked in for a couple of days so I decided to zip over here and do so before the next lot of freshmen wanting into junior-level classes comes tromping though the door.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

I tossed and turned all night, listening to the rain and the oil trains lumbering through the park down the hill. For some reason the sound really carried last night, and there were  more trains than usual. Wa. State is starting to wake up to the fact that none of the available tank cars are considered safe to transport the oil but reaching a solution will take time…..and the refineries, oil companies and BNSF have their own timetable.
