Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

my local public radio station here will be covering this with many retrospectives – since Pete has been a mainstay and his work with cleaning up the Hudson River has been legendary – he’s not just loved around here as a folk singer.

We all mourned the death of his wife Toshi last July.

Hi, Jan and Denise! It’s 12 degrees here with the wind chill bringing it down lower.

Over at my son’s house. Miss Pink Cheeks isn’t awake yet. Going to have to get her up in a minute.

    Everyone stay warm!

reading about the temperatures in Jan’s part of the world feel very lucky. Stay warm and safe.

    Hope RonK is improving.

Have to go to a lecture tonight but am going to sit in the back and sneak out and rush home for SOTU. If I’m not watching am sure those pesky Repubs will misbehave.

Well, we’re on a 2-hour delay — and I really wish it was till noon. It looks really scary out there. There’s ice, it’s sleeting, every time they show the traffic maps, it’s solid yellow marks for accidents. The traffic cameras — traffic at a crawl. They’re talking to the police chief right now, who says that the problems are being caused by so many more people on the road — and please stay home if you can.

And yes! AISD just called it “closed. What a relief! Somewhat annoying that they waited till I had my contacts & grown-up clothes on, but I’ll take it.

So – no plan for the day yet. May poke head outside much later & see if it’s ok to take a walk, but reports of black ice all over, so may not even do that.

It’s official – I have a cold.  Dammit.  At least it’s not the flu.

RIP Pete Seeger – your work lives on.

Hey JanF – when’s the Imbolc diary?  You’ve probably said and I just missed it, but I certainly don’t want to miss the diary.  Thanks.

Hope everybody is doing well – and getting healthier – in mooseland.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

After a long day of consulting and waiting Ron was released yesterday and we are thankfully at home. He will have the daily IV meds at the Dr’s office as it was just to complicated and expensive to arrange for in home infusion. So at 9:00 am that’s where we will be, for as long as it takes.

His leg is continuing to improve but unfortunately the only way to know if the infection is just in the skin and not in the joint is to see what happens after the antibiotics stop. Needless to say that makes me nervous, but it’s best to keep focused on the positive progress.

I stand by my theory that if men could have babies birth control would be in Tic Tacs. Instead, they just get to do all the talking.

Statement by the President on the Passing of Pete Seeger

Once called “America’s tuning fork,” Pete Seeger believed deeply in the power of song.  But more importantly, he believed in the power of community – to stand up for what’s right, speak out against what’s wrong, and move this country closer to the America he knew we could be.  Over the years, Pete used his voice – and his hammer – to strike blows for worker’s rights and civil rights; world  peace and environmental conservation.  And he always invited us to sing along.  For reminding us where we come from and showing us where we need to go, we will always be grateful to Pete Seeger.  Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Pete’s family and all those who loved him.
