Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

It got cold! After nearly 70 yesterday afternoon, it’s in the mid-30s now — and windy! And it is going to freeze tonight. Which blew my plan to get back with my workout group. I was going to meet with them, honestly – gym bag is packed with longjohns, tights, thermal top & a warm shirt (because at 6:30pm, it’ll be in the 40s, which is longjohn weather to a Texan) – but now I’m going straight home to cover my plants. Then I’ll walk in my neighborhood.

Back to work today. But I have a short week next week — taking Thursday through the following Tuesday off for my birthday. And the week after that is MLK Day, so I won’t have a “normal” work week till the last one in January. Today’s schedule: work (including trading around all the rotating duties I have that are on the days I’m taking off), cover plants, walk.

but have elebenty-hundred emails etc to deal with from being gone so long.  Hope your holy days were good – and you folks being clobbered with that storm be careful and stay warm.  I’ll check back when I can.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

inches of snow overnight but the plows have been out getting the major roads cleared.  Thankfully, there was no wintry mix so chipping ice off the car isn’t on my agenda today.  Actually, nothing is on my agenda except taking a broom to sweep the worst of the stuff off the car.

High projected to be 42 F. The outside temp. has already dropped a degree since I’ve been conscious this morning.  They’re predicting snow for the evening–not much, but even three flakes can cause area residents to go into screaming hysterics–but honestly, it looks as if it could snow any minute.

Was going to do some much-needed shopping at the mall, but think I’ll stay local instead. I still want to clean up my awful–I mean, office.

Hope that ONE day I’ll get back into the habit of going to the gym–haven’t been in a month, I swear. I’m terrible. Thank Goddess Yule happens only once a year and only for a month.

    Have a good day, all!

  5. which isn’t that reliable lately anyway, plus it’s getting covered with wind-driven snow here north of Boston, out on Cape Ann, where the slamming together of a gale-force Arctic blast and the storm rushing in from the southeast, sucking up even more power and moisture from the ocean as it (eventually) pulls out to sea, will give my little corner of the world well over a foot of snow before it’s done toying with us sometime tomorrow.

We’ll be headed into single digits tonight, and probably drop below zero by tomorrow morning.

But I don’t have to go out for anything, the horse is safely tucked away in his big stall with lots of food and people to look after him onsite, and I intend to Get Stuff Done over the next couple of days.

Starting with making French toast!  With gluten-free bread, Olivio fake butter, and The Amazing Egg egg-white fake batter.  But at least the maple syrup will be real.

It’s going to be a gray day so the tree lights will be welcome for one more day, then time to pack it all away.

We went for a walk at Whatcom Falls Park yesterday. RonK has been taking photos and writing about the fish hatchery and the creek so I tagged along. Bellingham has beautiful parks and I hope to spend more time enjoying them this year.

Plants are all covered up – it is supposed to be below freezing – they said 29, for several hours tonight. But then it won’t freeze tomorrow night. Which is frustrating – covering & uncovering the plants, but at least it’ll be above freezing for my ungodly hour workout Saturday.

So, that card arrived in the mail. It’s official, I’m old enough to join the AARP. Do I want to? Are they good guys?

I’m eating dinner — more black eyed peas — and watching TV.
