Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

but so far they haven’t materialized.

Had one of those delightful (not!) nights of waking up at 4 a.m., then being unable to get back to sleep. Finally said to h–l with it and got up to work on my Christmas newsletter. I have to print and mail copies to people who don’t have e-mail, but most people will receive the e-mail rather than a card.

Keep wondering how much longer I can do all this Christmas stuff–the house cleaning and silver polishing, cooking, gift wrapping, mailing presents to out-of-towners, et cetera. At least I don’t have to worry about the flowers for the Christmas table–my talented daughter-in-law does those.

Anyway…time to go make the early morning tea before I leave for my son’s house to get Miss Pink Cheeks fed and dressed. Next year either Grandpa or I will be able to walk her two blocks to her school. But for now we drive across town to day care.

    Everyone have a good day!

I am getting too old for this. Trying to get on the outside of my first cup of Cajun coffee before heading off to the office.

27ºF this morning in the Otteray, stumbling toward a forecast high of 48ºF later today. May actually be able to wash the crud off the Jeep. It had electrical problems (defroster fan quit working) and sat out under the tree so long it became a lawn ornament. Between the tree sap, owl poop, and caked-on pollen it looks pretty sad. It is kind of hard to drive in the mountains without the defroster working, so had to bite the bullet and get the defroster fan fixed. The shop guy said it was a wonder we didn’t catch on fire, because the fan motor, wiring and a computer control had burned up. Also cooked the dimmer switch and turn signals. Some of the wires had melted and welded themselves to the floorboard.

I was at Lowe’s a couple of days ago. In the garden shop, I was admiring a computerized weather station. It has a wireless sensor you put in the yard. Measures all kinds of things, like wind speed and direction, temperature both outside and inside, wind chill, dewpoint, precipitation,, and even keeps a historical log. All for about a hundred bucks. My dilemma is where to put the sensor. If I put it in the back yard I have two problems. First, the lawn guys are likely to run over it. Second, it would be in the wind shadow of the house, smokehouse and my workshop. I may see if there is some way I can put it on the roof of the workshop.

hubby left for work, then turned around and came home so that he can drive me to work since I have to give a final exam this morning and his car is heavier than mine.

Another cold morning, but it is supposed to warm up by the end of the week, then we get another cold front.

My best friend texted me late last night, she’s in the hospital. So I’m leaving work early today. And I guess I’ll ask my FB friends if anyone wants my ticket to see NdGT tonight. Even if I don’t hang out all evening, I need to be there some, and I don’t want the pressure of having to get back downtown.

a light snow blanketing the island. Went to the post office yesterday and waited so long in line that I almost called to have a pizza delivered to me. I stupidly forgot to bring a book to pass the hours. Could have read all of War and Peace, the line was that long. Hope you all have a good day and don’t have to stand in line anywhere! Stay warm and safe.

my son sees the neurosurgeon today for that herniated disc that’s pressing on his sciatic nerve (after 5 weeks of extreme pain he had to request an MRI – that’s what the MRI showed, so oops, get this man a neurosurgeon appt!) – and I’m asking for healing energy sent his way (he lives in Austin if you need a geographic target) from everybody of every Faith tradition I can contact.

(Am sending some myself to trs for his hand surgery and to teh PQ for her sprained ankle.  Hope the week gets better for everybody.)

One quilt is finished and in the mail, one more to go. It’s cut out and ready to sew, and now that I know what I can and cannot successfully do I hope I’ll finish it faster!

so glad I didn’t have to do it.

Snow is coming down here in big fat thick flakes – it’s 17 degrees so it is sticking.

Dumb chickens have decided to hang out on my back porch, huddled by the door instead of in the barn, which is warmer and has hay and water.
