Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

forecast says: Snow accumulations: 6 to 12 inches, with locally up to 14 inches over the eastern Catskills and southern Green Mountains.

This is not going to be fun

I’m supposed to go to a “Fool’s Mass” in nearby Kingston at 1PM on Sunday.

    It’s a performance by Dzieci

Dzieci (djyeh-chee) is an international experimental theatre ensemble dedicated to a search for the “sacred” through the medium of theatre. Using techniques garnered from such theatre masters as Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba and Peter Brook, ritual forms derived from Native American and Eastern spiritual disciplines, and an ethic based securely in Humanistic Psychology, Dzieci aims to create a theatre that is as equally engaged with personal transformation as it is with public presentation.

My godson is a member of the troupe and I’ve been looking forward to this – fingers crossed that it isn’t cancelled.

Hey, that rhymes!  How I’ve missed everyone here, hope you had a good Wed., Thurs., and Fri. I’ve been going over to my son’s house to get Miss Pink Cheeks off to preschool in the mornings and for that length of time they had “no computer power and no TV power,” as she put it.

After getting her off yesterday I came back to the house to wait for the Verizon man who appeared, miraculously, on time and equally miraculously, restored the “power.” I asked him to give me the “power” on my laptop and iPad, both waiting on the dining room table in fierce readiness, so from now on, I hope, I can join the check-in before Miss Pink Cheeks wakes up in the mornings.

As we drive down Fairfax County Parkway to day care in godawful traffic, I am required to sing.  “The Earth is our Mother” usually gets us all the way down the Parkway but if I don’t sing it all the way through, a little voice pipes up from the backseat:  “What about the ‘rivers are our sisters’? What about the ‘trees are our brothers’?” She doesn’t forget a single thing!

Looking forward to a day of staying in, going nowhere, making chicken vegetable soup that will simmer in the crockpot all day long while I write e-mails, work on the Christmas newsletter, and do other things like that. It’s going to be great not to rush off in the car madly in all directions.

    Everyone have a good weekend!

I overslept & am missing my workout. Eating breakfast & watching Up. I guess I’ll go to the gym later. Or ride my bike or something. And I have to figure out food for next week.

It’s supposed to start getting to normal weather — even warm next week. Yay!

of a nice layer of ice.  Temperature is going to be at 32 all day but at least the snow is now making a mess in St. Louis and points east.  The plow came through before dawn and stripped the snow layer off the driveways thus exposing all the ice.  Sigh.  Another day indoors as I no longer bounce well and don’t want to risk a fall.

I recovered from yesterday’s perfectionist quilting blues by just doing more of the stitches I didn’t like, thus making the back look I intended to make it that way…..whew. Crisis averted, Ha!

I’ll finish Sophie’s today, then on to Ava’s. I hope her’s will go faster because as always the sewing elf underestimates time.

Ever notice how the same people who think Obama is Muslim also thought Bush/Cheney were Christian?
