Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

of the Moose. It’s 61 in this part of the Moose archipelago. I am trying to pack for a four day conference and just can’t decide what to bring and, of course, it doesn’t matter at all. All I really need are patience and tact but I can’t seem to find them. Hope it’s a great day for all.

Brrrrrrrrr!! 43 degrees! Yeesh. I actually switched from a/c to heat last night – and it even kicked on. Ok, I had it set way up at 70, but even so…….. I used my heater. Probably switch back to a/c by the weekend, though.

Eating breakfast & drinking tea. This morning, my newfangled car said I need to check the tire pressure, so I guess I’ll do that after work. The things cars can do these days.

Few thoughts in head this early. Earworm is Spanish Eyes by U2. Pretty guitar work at the start of the song.

for the conference. Have a good one!  Just look at everyone you meet as if they’re potential characters in the novel you want to write. This will give you an intense gaze and an interested look, which are bound to charm people.

Jan, seems really cold in your neck of the woods! It’s 56 F. here in Northern Virginia, with cloudy skies presaging rain. Good. We need it. Just read your post of Monday, “Building Our Own Wave.”  Excellent, that’s what we need to do.

Still trying to work out whyinell Dems don’t have the “married women vote,” as the WaPo alleged this morning. I’m married and liberal, but I’m old–old enough to remember what it was like to be female before Griswold v. Connecticut, Eisenstadt v. Baird, and Roe v. Wade.

Yes, I am a one-issue voter. Other issues do matter to me–the economy, the environment, marriage equality, and so on, but basically–if a politician hates women to the point of mandating no access to contraception and abortion, then he or she is too stupid to get my vote. Because in my book, if you’re stupid enough to hate women and hold us in contempt, you’re going to be stupid on every other issue.

‘Nuff said! Now I’ve got to get ready to go the library and buy puzzles for the little one, as they’re having a sale on used puzzles this morning.  Everyone have a good day!

Had a good time yesterday. The casino is wild. Slot machines are now all plastic cards and cash receipts, no coins pouring out with that lovely sound. Definitely an experience. Not like anything I’ve ever seen before.

They gave us each a $20.00 “incentive” (card for use in casino only) and I won $15 cash, which paid for my lunch and pumpkin pecan cheesecake at… where else… the Cheesecake Factory!

Arundel Mills Mall is huge, bills itself as “outlet” but everything is full price. My only purchase was a pair of erasable yellow highlighters at Books A Million. Today I’ll see how well it works on a document I’m editing.

    Have a great day everybody.

    Registration crazies commencing – already two required classes are full and a third will be today, the 4th day of priority registration which basically continues until open registration starts on Jan 6th (open registration runs through the 1st week of classes – ending Jan 17th).  No, we’re not having fun.  But it’s a pretty day and I may actually get to walk home for their 1st time this week.  {{{HUGS}}}

I love this photo of Padden Creek at Fairhaven Park. RonK will post a diary sometime today about the little creek in our neighborhood. It’s interesting to learn more about something we see everyday.
