Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

I’m very grumpy today – have to make arrangements for selecting the 2 days of forced furlough that the State is shoving down our throats — including us lowly paid adjuncts.

We have to take 2 days off this semester – when we should be teaching, and our pay will be docked accordingly.

    Grrrrrr

I’ve got a heavy heart this morning….. my grandaughter’s friends were hit by a car Sunday night and Anna (age 6) died and Abigail (age 11) will not survive. The kids in the Forest Grove neighborhood were all playing in the leaves piled by the street for collection on Monday. Needless to say my daughter and the entire neighbor hood are devastated with grief. The children had all been in the same Montessori together so they have a strong support group, but such a tragic loss is a hard grieving process regardless.

Makes the current political angst I feel re keeping the children in our country cared for and safe feel even more poignant.

Actually needed a jacket this morning. I know 57 wouldn’t feel cold to most of y’all, but it’s only been a week or so since our normal overnight lows were in the 70s.

New class starts tonight at church – Paint the Stars, about science & theology. I almost signed up for the class on the strong women in Jesus’ family tree — always up for some feminist theology, but this just sounded too cool.

I put up a post on FB last night, starting off the next thing I’m raising money for. Not asking for money but for stuff. I have to raise money for the Austin Children’s Shelter for my half marathon training. I was going to sell some of my sci fi action figures on e-bay for that. But I checked out what similar things are selling for, and I ain’t gonna hit $750 that way. So I thought I’d ask people if they had any stuff I can sell on e-bay to raise money. Only response so far is a friend asking me to vote for her kids’ coach for something. Sigh. I don’t know what else to do, so I’ll keep asking. Surely people have stuff that’s nice, but that they just don’t want.

going to 65 F. later.  Have to drive Dearly to the doctor at 11 to get his eye bandage taken off.  He looks like a pirate, with one eye covered up.

Perhaps…perhaps I’ll be able to take care of some of my backlog of correspondence today.

Starting to think about the next short story, now coalescing into some sort of plot. The other story is still “cooling.”  I’m pretty satisfied with it but still wish I knew someone who has actually lived in Mali so I could check details.  The Net has been a lot of help, but very few people write about what a place smells like. All places have evocative smells that instantly trigger memory–but you have to be aware of them.

Hope everyone will have a good day.  Good luck on gathering things to sell, another!  Wish I lived closer so I could help.
