Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Not surprised to see my R congressman Chris Gibson NY voted with the “ayes” – he is going to be challenged by a well-funded liberal Democrat.

He already has a statement out:

I voted ‘yes’ on the CR tonight, which passed with bipartisan support – including Upstate NY Democrats Sean Patrick Maloney from the Hudson Valley and Dan Maffei from Central New York. Although it’s not everything I would hope for in an agreement, I do believe it’s a simple, fair, and reasonable compromise that should be adopted.

Brrrr! It’s 53 degrees according to my car. Wearing real shoes for the 2nd day in a row.

I brought my gym bag, we’ll see if I make it to the workout. Must try, because maybe that’ll help me sleep.

right now, mercifully cool. Going for a high of 71 F. today. Being old-fashioned, I like my weather to be seasonal.

Got to get a birthday package off to a relative in Ireland this morning, then get my car washed and polished. This afternoon I’ll be driving three elderly voters to the government center for early voting.

Daughter-in-law went back to work this morning, grumbling because there wasn’t enough notice.  They decided to open the government in the middle of the night, which caught her unprepared. Baby is fast asleep although fully dressed.  Grandpa will take her to day care this morning.

Hope this is a good day for everyone–I am so horrified and disgusted by the Republicans it’s going to take me a long time to get over this.

I’m missing my computer with the back lite keyboard. I really like the design of the computer…..especially the size and keyboard. But it doesn’t function as well as it should, so I hope the Windows 8.1 update will make it more stable.

I  need to replace one more old laptop but I’m hesitant to invest in another Windows 8 machine.

Poor Khloe has the pukes; hope it’s “just” a random stomach virus and not something weird like norovirus.

Gotta go – need to send a Thank You card to President Obama.

never thought I’d be celebrating the sequester, but… there it is.  Really need some stress relief after the past two weeks.

Here’s hoping the D’s come to “Catfood II: Sequester Boogaloo” swinging hard.  Obama’s already laid the “revenues” marker down.

    happy thorsday, mooserinos!

supposed to get rain tomorrow.  Full QC tonight – almost a relief from the Budget Committee meetings.  Glad the Rs blinked, but really all that means is we’re still in the frying pan as opposed to having jumped into the fire.  Until we get people in Congress who know something about budgets – household, business, and governmental – and are willing to spend on “capital improvements” like infrastructure and education as well as make the 1% deadbeats pay their taxes at least at the effective rate (effective rate = what they actually pay as opposed to what the official/legal rate is) the rest of us do we will play some variation of this over and over and over again.  Definition of insanity.  You can’t make money if you don’t invest, you can’t even win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.

Repeating my call for help re: ACA (in a different diary) – next Monday’s Budget Committee will be hearing from the R “insurance consultant” who has given “incorrect information” before about what the ACA will cost the county (we self-insure – offer it to all f/t employees and meet the ACA minimums).  I’d like to be prepared just in case he tries that again.  Thanks, bf

Colors are changing, but nowhere near peak.

Lot of situational stressors, but will manage. We just got word from Social Security agency we consult with, that we may be getting paid for all the people seen for them during the shutdown. The professional relations supervisor said they hoped to get the all clear within hours, but it will probably be next week before we start seeing direct deposits into the bank account.
