Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

the dogs and cats ignored it. It was sitting on the counter eating a banana from the fruit bowl.

Hubby came home and got rid of it – permanently.

    Shudder – can’t stand them.

    Perils of country living.

    Good morning.

On the kitchen counter? Really? Eating a banana… Did s/he peel it first? Yipes!

I’m up early this morning. It’s totally dark out, I can’t see the keys on my keyboard but I don’t want to turn on the light yet. I stared at a candle for a while Thinking Meditative Thoughts. I used to do that in the … let’s see, where’s that number key … 1980s. Maybe I can remember how.

Fog’s back. I was actually awakened by the bellowing of multiple foghorns at around 5am.

Looks like we still have another week or so of nice weather ahead, though, morning fog notwithstanding. Then comes the rainy season. But these past weeks of gorgeous weather have made a huge difference for my state of mind so I’ll be able to cope with at least the first month or two of winter. 🙂

Unfortunately, the cats had other ideas. When merely jumping on me failed, they began to knock items onto the floor. That trick always works.

So now I’m up. I’m drinking my first cup of coffee (Joe’s Dark from Trader Joe’s) and I’ve washed dishes and swept the floors of all that damned tracked kitty litter.

My computer has a date with the Genius Bar at 12:30. I expect they will need to keep it in order to replace the logic board. You may notice me grumbling about my sister’s Acer laptop for a while, Such a clunky keyboard! Not to mention the dreaded IE.

It’ll be in the mid-80s by the time I wander outside. Fun. 🙂

…just got back from a European road trip. They drove from Frankfurt to Zurich on this indirect route:

I’m so envious I could spit.

It’s nippy and damp and I’m lovin’ it! After such a long hot and dry summer the burst of autumn in the air is a glorious respite!

Seriously considering stirring up something pumpkin-y today. Not sure what just yet, but something. Busy day ahead, I’m always happy about busy–Hearts to God Hands to Work..I live by that one.

Today marks six months since the passing of my youngest son. While it’s still surreal on some levels, it’s better. I still cry, but I also know Bryce would not want me to wallow in sorrow…I can hear him using his favorite phrase for his brothers–“Suck it up buttercup”…I choose to celebrate him today, everyday. We have been so blessed so comforted as we learn things about our son we never knew–Like why he was always late coming home from church on Wednesday night. It was because he stopped to help an elderly neighbor take out his trash on Wednesday nights for Thursday pick up. We never knew it, the neighbor told us. We celebrate the kindness he planted while he was here. I miss him so much.
