My fire alarm is chirping and I can’t figure out how to change the battery and it’s too early to wake up the landlord.

The only little kid job I ever did was babysitting, and I did little of that once I realized that ALL kids are Dennis the Menace. Paper delivery here is by adults in cars. Has to be now that few people get actual papers delivered.

I have never been tempted to cheat, because I would get caught. I have not yet been audited.

I don’t know if I am a good negotiator. I haven’t really had a chance to test my skills or lack thereof.

When I was a kid I liked oatmeal and I liked Maypo and Malt-o-meal. My mom fixed us Cream of Wheat once and I didn’t like it. I haven’t had Maypo or Malt-o-meal in ages and have often wondered if I might still like them, but I definitely still like oatmeal, with brown sugar and/or maple syrup and with raisins.

Rain, rain, rain!  From now through Sunday, says my iPhone (which is rarely to be trusted that far in advance).

I occasionally substituted for other kids delivering their papers when they went on vacation.  Never had a route of my own.  I did lawn mowing and garden work when they presented themselves.  I don’t know who delivers the papers these days.  We no longer take any.  My suspicion is that grownups drive around in cars nowadays and have their kids throw the papers out the car windows.

I was tempted once when, for some reason, I owed a ton of money.  I don’t think I ended up cheating, though.  Never been audited.

I don’t know that my negotiating skills, whatever they might be, have ever been tested.

I like oatmeal.  I haven’t had it in a long time, but I used to put milk and sugar on it.

    Wow, now that was embarrassing!

In 1971, the London Bridge (the second of three London Bridges) opened on Lake Havasu, Arizona.

I’ve always meant to go there and see it.  Anybody here ever been there?

In 1973, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in disgrace after he was charged with income tax evasion.

Is that all he was charged with?  There was actually a whole laundry list of things they had on him.  He was still taking kickbacks from when he was Governor of Maryland.  I was just thinking about that whole thing the other day.  When it became likely that Nixon would be gone, they must have thought, “Holy shit, we’ve got to get Spiro out of there before he becomes president!”

Nice balance in that painting.  Her hat looks like the spaniel’s ears, and the spaniel is also balanced by the thing she has draped over her other arm.

    This means nothing to me.

    No and no

Tempted? Sure. But I haven’t actually cheated. Never been auditec.

Do you have good negotiating skills?

    No

Do you enjoy any porridge like foods (oatmeal, malt-o-meal, cream of wheat, etc.)? Which ones? Do you add stuff like sugar and raisins?

I like good oatmeal. Here is one variation that is really good.

  5. Avilyn

Supposed to be rain from now until the weekend in NJ according to the news this morning.  So far they’ve been right.

    Q&A:

Did you ever do any of those jobs they used to let kids do, like newspaper delivery? Do kids still deliver papers where you live?  I’ve done babysitting.  No clue on paper delivery; never had a paper delivered, no clue who does it if it’s still done.

Have you ever been tempted to cheat on your taxes? Have you ever been audited?  Honestly, no.  When I was younger I never really made enough to worry about it; and these days while spouse and I are making more, we tend to either get a small refund or owe a small amount, and feel it’s our obligation to pay our fair share.  Never been audited.

Do you have good negotiating skills? What do you use them for?  No.

Do you enjoy any porridge like foods (oatmeal, malt-o-meal, cream of wheat, etc.)? Which ones? Do you add stuff like sugar and raisins?   I don’t know what malt-o-meal is, but I like oatmeal and cream of wheat both; what I add depends on my mood. Brown sugar is always a favorite, as is butter, or milk, sometimes I’ll cook it with frozen fruit like cherries or berries mixed in, sometimes I’ll add ground flax.. just depends on what I have around and what I feel like.

  6. This would be good news for America:

The House GOP was trying to decide on lunch, but Boehner said they don’t have the votes, so they’ve now resorted to cannibalism.
