Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in – Meesely Greetings

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

with an expected high of 79.  Days warmer this week than last week. Color season in the mountains is almost on us. The mountains look like a patchwork quilt by the third week of October.

Grandfather Mountain cam is still out of service.

    Good morning Jan and Meese.

Trying to pull myself together – I have a houseguest, my godson who is coming to school with me today to guest lecture for my morning class – which he volunteers to do each semester.

He is an expert on the Mexican indigenous healing system of “curanderismo”, as well as coming from a family of practitioners and my students always love his presentation.

    Thoughts on the news:

Well at least the idiotic and destructive government shutdown of parks and places won’t close the Moose Pond.

Wishing everyone well this morning, and my thoughts go out to anyone who may be laid-off as a result of this mess.

High will be in the 90s.

So after the eye doc’s suggestions yesterday, I went home & had….. the worst night’s sleep I’ve had in weeks. Sigh. (Eye doc says there’s nothing wrong with the eye, that I’m over tired & need B vitamins, sleep, rest) Eye is twitching like mad. Absence-wise, it looks like I can take off any time this week & next. Friday is the kickoff for the charitable campaign, and our speaker – because of me – is from AIDS Services of Austin. So I really want to be here for that. Maybe I’ll use my copious spare time at work the next couple of days to map out a fitness staycation for next week. I’ll set the alarm for late, eat healthy, do 1 or 2 workouts & little else.

Today: work, book discussion, attempt to sleep.

they’re predicting a high of 81 F. and sunny skies later in the day.

Busy morning here:  son left to drive to work and will probably get there in record time, as The Shutdown is in full swing and he didn’t have to take Miss Preschooler to day care today; daughter-in-law is off for the day because of The Shutdown, so she took our little one to day care; Grandpa is making coffee; Grandma (moi), delighted that yesterday’s fast day brought good results, is planning an excursion to the gym followed by an excursion with daughter-in-law to Fair Oaks Mall.

It’s not the weather for it, really, but I’m going to make Chicken Pot Pie for dinner tonight because I have the ingredients and it’s a no-brainer. For afters, we’ll have cheese, biscuits, and our own organic apples.

Have to place my Christmas order today. Year after year I send Swiss Colony to the same people.  This year there’s going to be a shakeup and they’re all going to get something completely different what they received last year.

After that, it’ll be time to work on my next story. I’m really excited about this one, just hope I can pull it off. It’s set in a country I’ve never visited. (So thankful for Auntie Google!)

The traffic should be reduced drastically Here Near DC today. Good day to go into the city-if there’s anything to go in for.

The question now is How long? How long will the ever-increasing effect of this clusterfuck last? What will be the ripple effects on towns and cities with high populations of govt employees?

What was the economic effect of the pay freezes on communities? Then what was added by the sequester? And now what will happen? Perhaps someone will design an animated image of the effect, with colors spreading and darkening as the dollars stop flowing.

Letters went out this morning to all the DFW DOT employees and contractors regarding the shutdown. Essential personnel will remain, but just who those individuals will be is still unknown. And this is all for a group of congress critters with the maturity level of neonate to garner bragging rights. How special is that?

70’s here in North Texas this morning, heading for the mid 90’s before the day is out. That said, fall will reach us this weekend when the projected highs will be in the lower and mid 70’s hooray!

Homecoming this week in Tolar, purple, white and black everywhere. Is it just me or have homecoming mums gotten way over the top? Saw one the other day I would have sworn should have been in celebration of Mardi Gras not a high school homecoming!

I’m tuckered from the combination of yesterdays news and the move the basement stuff shuffle, but at least the basement project is underway and won’t be shut down!

    Not quite CAVU, but fairly clear, low 60s to low 80s today.  I cannot think of anything in the animal kingdom as intent on destroying the necessities of life as the present-day Rs.  Well, most of us will live through this shut down, just like most of us (over 20 years old anyway) lived through the previous extremist R temper tantrum.  Time to haul out our old “Remember in November” bumper stickers.  Hang in there everybody.  {{{HUGS}}}
