Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Y’all will be so proud of me — I slept in! I’m eating breakfast & watching Up. I’ll do a hill workout on my own, later (that’s what my ungodly hour class is doing this morning).

Mid-day, it should start cooling off. And tomorrow morning, it’ll be in the 50s. The 50s. Brrr! I’m going to need to wear something long-sleeved to church in the morning, and shoes not sandals.

So, today – watch my weekend morning shows, lounge, workout, groceries.

…in the hours before dawn. Predicted high of about 80° at the beach, hotter downtown. Yesterday I had a nice morning walk through the neighborhood but had to cut my afternoon walk short because the sun was just too intensely hot. Not complaining, mind you. The rainy season will be here soon enough!

I’m staring at a grocery list and trying to dream up some interesting meals. Inspiration is hard when my stomach is still asleep.

dropping the temperature into the mid-60s with a high forecast in mid-50s.

My new apartment building is heavily sprinklered everywhere (should there be a fire in my bedroom, the sprinkler water will drown me before smoke/fire can get to me).  About 8:30 all hell broke loose — 5 firetrucks, one ambulance and 2 division chief’s cars came roaring into the driveway.  Thankfully whatever it was didn’t amount to anything, other than scaring the devil out of me.  Good to know we get a fast response.  Jan and any other of you in the way of today’s bad weather, stay safe.

We’re going to a neighborhood picnic this afternoon, so Son, Daughter-in-Law, and Granddaughter can meet their new neighbors.  Wish the people who are selling the house would close earlier than October 30!

Daughter-in-law has been off all week. Wonder how much more pain we’ll all have to suffer through Rethuglican intransigence.  If this nation defaults, we’re screwed.  Really.

Yesterday morning my niece and I took the little ones to Waterford Fair. Felt sorry for the craftspeople sweating in their 18th-century clothes, tricorne hats, and mobcaps!  It was so hot we came home early, just couldn’t take it any more.

I’m still able to get a fistful of raspberries for granddaughter’s breakfast, but we ate the last of the runner beans for dinner yesterday. Last night she, Grandpa, and I watched “The Secret Garden,” a Francis Ford Coppola film, and it was excellent. Before Grandpa started the DVD, Miss Preschooler and I had a long, earnest conversation about Abraham Lincoln. Why she’s interested in him, I don’t know.  She’s four and a half!  🙂

I’m slow and sleepy this morning and Maggie (our visiting grand puppy) is napping with her head as close to the keyboard as she can get it……just in case I forget where my attention should be, lol!

  8. I’ve been fighting a major fraud from the moving company. They held my brother’s stuff hostage and demanded over twice the price agreed on. Fortunately I put half on a credit card and they took it off as fraud. Still the stress has been horrible plus much of my brother’s things are destroyed in the move including his big television.

The stress is making Reid’s M.S. act up and he is falling and I have to try and get him back on his feet. The stress is giving me migraines and I have to keep up a positive attitude so he doesn’t get even more upset.

Trying to get a bit of artwork done while he is resting. This is called Behold the Moon.
