Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

for 77 with some rain off and on.  Loved the POTUS speech and heading to Jan’s diary now and then for other news. Hope it’s a good day for all and that citizens across the land are writing and phoning the Republicans (whose fine health care is paid by us) expressing fury at what the GOP has wrought.

Columbia got over one inch of rain Friday night (badly needed) and the temperature dropped into the wonderful range.  It will stay in the low-to-mid 70s most of the week.  Since I continue to be without TV (until mid-Oct) I mainly go to Al Jazeera for news.  In the meantime, thanks to Hulu I’ve been wallowing in Masterpiece Mysteries like Inspectors Morse and Lewis as well as finally getting to see season one of Downton Abbey.

Yesterday I got through to someone at social services who will cancel my previous EBT card and send me a new one, due to arrive in a week or so. State of Maryland comes through again, being decent ‘n’ efficient ‘n’ such.

and it’s a nice morning, as well, although it’s supposed to rain like blazes this afternoon. I spoiled Dearly Beloved this morning by providing him with OJ, warm croissants, butter, warmed strawberry jam, and strawberries.  He ate it ALL.  That’s okay–this is a guy who can lose five pounds watching the Tour de France on TV because “it’s so strenuous.” I’ve often told him I want his metabolism for Christmas.

Just put a huge spice cake in the oven, and it’ll take about an hour. I’ve had to push back my coffee date with a friend in New Orleans.  We’re going to do Facetime while drinking coffee. We’ve never met in person, but I really like him–met him through a political blog. In case anyone is eyeing this askance, let me hasten to add I’m old enough to be his mother–I am VERY old, a product of the late Jurassic.

The Circle Sisters will be swooping in at 2:00 p.m. Hoping to have enough time to gather acorns and pretty leaves for a Mabon altar.  So much to do!

Hope everyone will have a good day and a good weekend!

I used to use fresh branches and flowers, now the seasonal fakes are so much easier, but I try to use them in a natural looking way. The  iron shelf is also the recycle station, but as the back porch is the entrance we use the most I like to keep a big arrangement to distract from the real life clutter.

Got up ungodly early, did my workout, went for breakfast tacos. While I was in south Austin, I went to the opening of my co-op’s 2nd location. They rushed it a bit because Austin is getting a Trader Joe’s this weekend. I’m not interested in TJ’s, I’ve been to the one in Plano (it was near the hospital where my mom was last winter) and I just wasn’t impressed, my co-op is way cooler.

Anyway, I took a nap & put my frozen fruit in a tub to melt. Had a healthy dinner, clearing out dvr because a lot of good shows start next week. And that was my Saturday.
