Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

Lazy Sunday morning here. First cup of coffee in me, and just relaxing. Iriti is reading an archaeology book on her Kindle DX. Got about a third of the raised floor in my shop put down yesterday. Currently 46, with an expected high of 77 – which beats the heck out of the 90+ I was working in last week.

perfect day for it.  Yesterday was the first time I saw the apartment.  It is “low income” independent living housing at an amazing best.  I’ve lived in a couple of dozen apartments in my life but this one is drop dead gorgeous.  Especially the kitchen, beautiful dark wood cabinets with crown molding, ceiling fans, hardwood floors in the main living area and sprinklers everywhere.  The stove even has a fire suppression system (in case someone forgets they’ve got a pot of grease on the stove) which activates when it senses a flame.  It’s got it all, including being ADA compliant.  It’s going to be a treat living there.  No phone or internet until sometime tomorrow (hopefully).

It was 49 when we got up this morning, but is 54 now, going to 75. FIL turned on the furnace, since old bones chill easily, and it doesn’t stay on. Service time!

Yesterday’s foray to the monthly spin-in was a lot of fun. I’m happy that I went, even though I was anxious about it. This Saturday is Worldwide Spin in Public Day, and I’ll be participating in that. We’ll be at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts in Wilmington from 10 til 2. I just have to decide which wheel to bring.

Very damp and drizzly. The weatherfolk are predicting actual rain by the end of the week. Everyone here is hoping this is just a temporary interruption of our best weather season and that the winter rains won’t be arriving freakishly early.

Yesterday I took the most strenuous walk yet, a hike really as it included lots of uphill trekking. A little sore today but feeling a sense of accomplishment.

    Happy Sunday, peeps!

Khloe is making a mad dash to the store before it rains again, while I sit here half asleep and listen to the washing machine do its thing.

…went to a conference in Salt Lake City for LGBT-friendly Mormons. Football legend Steve Young was the keynote speaker, and he posed for a pic with them. Diane had been crying. She gets emotional. 🙂

I did some straightening up in the workshop and put a new watchband on my watch. The old one broke, and I had a heck of a time finding a new one that 1)I liked, and 2)fit the watch. It’s an aviator’s watch, and the face is 44mm. The band has to be 22mm. That is pretty big. Cool right now at 72, with an expected low tonight of 57.

I see that eeff’s boss, David Ragan, won the NASCAR Spring Cup race today at Chicagoland in his #34 car. Nice guys can (and sometimes do) finish first. There was a really horrible crash by a rookie driver, but thanks to the great safety equipment, he walked away and climbed into the ambulance under his own power. That is David’s second win of the year. He won the big superspeedway race at Talladega last May.
