Thursday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

I got a new toy and it work’s great. My time in the wilderness is over. Not entirely sure that’s a good or bad thing but I am checking in.

Eating beans, drinking tea. Very few thoughts in my head. But hey, I only woke up once last night – and that was around midnight, so that was nice. I think I was actually asleep asleep (not just dozing) when the alarm went off.

My car said it was 80 as I was driving in. Sigh. But it is only supposed to get up to 98 today, so there’s that.

I lead a very boring life so nothing of interest to anyone is happening here.  There has been much written in various places about the effect fracking is having on water supplies in places around the nation, particularly in west Texas and New Mexico.  The aquifers have been under stress because of the drought and the water needed for fracking is making a bad situation worse.  Some Texas communities have almost no water.  Wonder what the energy companies will do when the water is gone?  Of course, the worse impact will be on those who live in the affected areas.  Rachel Maddow did a piece the other night about how Texas can no longer afford to repair and pave the roads that are being turned into dust by the equipment needed by the frackers.  Solution?  gravel and a reduced speed limit.  God forbid the legislature would consider levying a tax on the companies making an obscene amount of money to defray the cost repairig the infrastructure.

weekend.  We’ll be able to turn off the a.c. again–yay!

Lots happening this week, including visits to the doctor at oh-dark-thirty and the subsequent recovery the next few days for messed-up sleep patterns.  I feel back to normal now, thank goodness–actually might get something done today. My husband had cataract surgery, so needed someone to drive him to the doctor’s office for a few days. He is the worst back-seat driver I’ve ever seen in my life.  I was trembling in every limb by the time we arrived at the doctor’s office for the follow-up visit.

Working this afternoon at headquarters in Herndon. Things are starting to ratchet up for our candidate with the approach of Labor Day.

FINALLY have a chance to see the dermatologist–going in tomorrow.  Her office canceled the last appointment.  I would really like to know what’s causing this itching.  If it’s “every growing thing outside,” I’m up a creek.  I can’t live my life under house arrest, so I’ll just have to put up with it or move to the Gobi Desert every summer.

It’s raining now but this is supposed to end this morning.  Sunny and eighty today after the rain clears out.

My daughter started kindergarten yesterday.  Lived it and the bus ride.  She’s excited to do it again today.  She also starts piano lessons which she’s been begging for for two years.  Piano tuner comes tomorrow.

My son enjoyed his alone time with me.  And I survived.  I only cried a little when that bus drove away.

I have been on a news blackout for about a week.  I was really getting down about most everything so had to take a break.  I’ll dip my toe in again next week but another weekend of ignorant bliss sounds good.

    I had to turn on the A/C last night (true I had to crank it down to 75 to get it to come on, but the humidity was making it impossible to sleep – put it back to it’s normal 79 this morning).  Should be wrapping up most of the stuff I’ve been working on the last week or so – the move is almost complete, just 2 more offices to go, the faculty meeting is over and only brought about 2 changes to the Spring schedule, I’ve got the new data drops ordered (that won’t happen until after Labor Day but it’s in queue), just finishing up departmental and grant balance reports…  I might get back this afternoon even and tomorrow I might – maybe – be able to sip a cuppa joe and enjoy the moosely checkin 🙂  {{{HUGS}}}

I thought I was losing my eyesight this morning … until I took a look at my glasses. Ick! I think I’ll go wash them and make a fresh pot of coffee. 🙂

It is still summer in North Texas but we have had a break in the oppressive heat which I have been enjoying.  Hope all are well.

I’ll have the second injection in my knees today, and the shots are helping, yay! If thty will buy me some comfortable time while I figure out what to do next i’ll be very grateful.

We have a fog advisory, but it is not foggy where I am. I am not very busy today, and that may be a Good Thing. Went to the doctor earlier this week and my blood pressure was in the middle of the normal range for the first time in many months.

Day before the drive, packing and prepping. Rich washed the car for me, so of course it’s going to rain.
