Thursday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

they say it will go up to 75 but right now I feel like turning the heat on.

I resisted the temptation and settled for my winter robe ๐Ÿ™‚

Today is my penultimate day at the current job and short timers is reaching critical levels. I am being very diligent to train, communicate and do an excellent job but I don’t think the fact that I find myself bopping around singing happy songs is winning me any friends.

Ah well. Excited about the new job, even excited about the trip to New York (Hicksville, which is on Long Island). Not sure how much time I will have to do anything, but I should have evenings free. Any affordable suggestions?

with a projected high of 80 F.  I wish it would stay like this, I love it! I have the “fall feeling”–am I the only one?  Starting to think about apple desserts–yesterday I made apple cake.  Apple pasty (one of Pillsbury’s pie crusts folded around apples, sugar, and cinnamon), apple sponge, and apple crumble are all easy-to-make regulars at our house.

Our apples are “organic” in the sense that we’ve never sprayed them, but they’re small and have defects. They have to be washed and cut up before they can be used, which means I can’t make apple meringues or baked apples, which require large, perfect apples.

Can’t remember whether the dog training class is this morning or tomorrow morning, so will have to check with the owner of the dog place. If it’s tomorrow, I’m going to get my nails done.

    Everyone have a good day!

Another beautiful day.  Mid seventies, sunny, dry.  Gorgeous.  We are having friends for dinner and will start a fire in the pit tonight.  Live it.  Feels like football weather.  Kids are good, husband is good, I am good.  Yeah!

School supply shopping was great, I didn’t cry.  She is thrilled and excited.

    Have a great day!

Short shopping list: Rx and baking soda at Target. They still have baking soda for ~50ยข and I use a good bit of it.

Also milk at Trader Joe’s. A gallon of their milk lasts for 12 days.

I didn’t get to thrift shop yesterday. Cars were lined up to get into the parking lot 5 min before it opened. Today I’ll make the rounds to look for 1. earrings smooth enough to sleep in and 2. damask dinner napkins to use for dish towels. They’re totally soft, natural fabric and lintfree. I love them, but since I wash them often, they wear thin and get holes.

I finally have four white handkerchiefs that don’t disappear because I wash them by hand. They dry in half an hour, smoothly spread out over the washer, looking like they were ironed.

    TTYL.

Had another lousy night’s sleep, probably was at least somewhat due to the a/c running all night to get to 80 degrees. When I callen in to work, the boss put me out for the day, so I can try to sleep some later, or I can go in to work.

Two days with partial sunshine (for which I am grateful) but now the fog is back with a vengeance. Not very cold out, though, which is good.

We have something similar to that on Skyline Drive, most years. Glad to know I’m not the only one with that “fall feeling”!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Forecast high today is 77, and severe clear. Cool wx will prevail through the next several days. I don’t have any appointments today (YAY!), so I can get some chores done. On the other hand, no appointments means no billable hours (BOOOOO!).

Supposed to rain again tomorrow, but nice WX for the weekend with an occasional shower. My daughter says it looks like summer is about over, but I reminded her we will have at least at least one more hot spell before fall sets in. Love autumn in the Blue Ridge.

I was going to post a link to the Grandfather Mountain live cam, but it seems to be down. Oh well, you guys can be envious some other time.

The coil is dirty, really dirty because of last year’s large amount of dust here. (my apartment was flooded, the whole floor & most of the drywall was replaced, took all of July last year) The system is 10 years old. They want to replace it. The finance guy is coming at 2, the fix-it guy is coming back between 4-6.

My brother is on vacation out of the country, so I can’t get a check for a week or longer. But maybe they won’t mind financing me for a couple of weeks.

At least I get to clear out the dvr today.

supposed to be a high of 79, sunny. There’s a nasty taint in the air, though, since MIL and FIL are listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio. :sigh:

I’m thinking we – or, at least, I – may need to exit the premises for a while.

My thumb got discharged by both the surgeon and PT today! I still have a lot of strengthening to do, but PT sent me home with a new weight and lots of things to squeeze while I blog, along with their amazement that I’m doing so well at eight weeks. (I didn’t tell them how many hours a day I actually spend on the computer. HA!)
