The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.”

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else”

    63 here and rainy. Headed for 79…and rainy.

    Down to 9 days here at soon-to-be ex-job; only 4 of those are regular work days, the other 5 I’m in Kaizan (process improvement) events. Don’t think my boss has done the math on the second half of that yet.

    Is it 8/16 yet?

    going up to 79.  Am stressed with finishing writing today’s Tuesday’s Chile, and my husband “mentioning” to me yesterday that 20-30 people are arriving here tomorrow to celebrate his annual religious birthday.

    Usually, if it falls during the week we spend mostly quiet time – but now I have to run around and prepare and deal with feeding them all.  

    Sigh.

    Back to work.

    It’s 65 going up to 79.

    Am trying to get used to my new computer, especially Word 2013. Realized that one week today I leave for a long vacation and I have much to do! But first coffee and the news.

    Chances of thunderstorms later this evening.  Work was crazy yesterday – didn’t get any ‘real’ work done – only production issues.

    Good.  Then we won’t have to water anything. Have to run out this morning and buy a big sack of “lean” dog food for the dog-boy.

    Still itching and bitching, can’t wait until tomorrow to see the dermatologist–hope she finds out what’s wrong with me and gives me a prescription for massive doses of whatever will stop the itching.

    Today I’m in a mood to make oatmeal-walnut cookies.  I’ll take some of them to headquarters.  The problem with being empty nesters is that if you make something delicious, you quickly become bored with it.

    Eating breakfast, drinking tea.

    Dinner & gym bag are here. I’ll eat dinner on my 3:30 break so I can work out at 6:30. When it’s this hot, you want to have eaten, but you really don’t want food in your stomach.

    and of course the extended forecast calls for a 20% chance of rain and temps back in double digits 6 days away. Just like yesterday and the day before and the day before and the day before.

    I saw something called the Stone Wave ( http://tvstuffreviews.com/ston… ) on TV and bought it at the local As Seen On TV store.

    It’s a one-serving dish that will cook almost anything in the microwave, which I need because I can’t cook and I really need to eat healthier. Eggs. The Stone Wave is best for eggs. They’re healthy.

    So I check my eggs, sell by date July 25, that’s not bad, eggs last forever. Wait… checked again. That date is June 25. Maybe not that much forever. Damn.

    Since Chevron decided sometime in the 90’s to standardize basic software on everyone’s computer, Word was okay.  Because I used MS products for so many years, getting used to the way Apple’s word processing works took a little getting used to.  The upgraded OS does have one simple feature I love — the Reader which converts whatever you are reading into plain text.  No formatting, it just looks like a plain text document.  Whether or not Word has a similar feature I don’t know as I’ve been away from MS for quite a while.

    It keeps acting like it’s going to rain, but the water just stays in the air.  Sigh.  Got my (1st draft) Spring 2014 classes in yesterday.  Got the last new hire grad assistant entered.  That’s sitting on the last approver’s desk, so I should be able to do the next step today.  Chiropractor appt this afternoon (should have gone as soon as I got out of that surgical boot but I hoped my back would “reset” itself – yeah right).  Finance Committee this evening – where we get to enjoy (serious snark there) the sight of the premier Animal Shelter supporter of old complain that, after being told by 3 Rs and 2 Ds last week to “tell us what you need and we’ll handle it”, the Animal Shelter people asked for a 3rd person in addition to the full-time vet and the 2nd vet tech to get rid of all the overtime our current employees are putting in.  I’m taking a ham sandwich for dinner because I know I won’t get home in time to eat before bedtime – probably should be taking popcorn but I don’t think they’d get the reference.  {{{HUGS}}}

    Foggy again here and still cooler than normal, even for us. Today is my half-birthday, which doesn’t mean a whole lot except that we’re all getting older way too fast!

    My sister and her old dog arrive tomorrow, the whole family for the weekend, then our grandson and daughter and her family all next week. I’m feeling frazzled…..

    My contact at The Genealogy Company I Do Not Name has once again babbled at me and insulted my intelligence. It’s like she has to dump some standard genealogy stuff into the email and press send. Meaningless, not at all a response to my message.

    I asked some questions about a project I’ve been helping with since 2007. Yes, that’s not a typo, 2007. I asked her to please pass along my request for information to “the SR” meaning The Senior Researcher whose name I don’t know and with whom I’ve never corresponded directly. He just sends her cryptic instructions and she passes them along with me.

    Worst case I’ve ever experienced of Boy Do I Feel Like a Mushroom, this company. But without them I’d be destitute instead of just drowning in financial anxiety and applying for food stamps.
