Saturday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

You can follow the daily moosetrails here: Motley Moose Recent Comments.

This is a test of the Emergency Khloekin Network. If this were a real emergency, I would be posting Khloe’s Saturday Check-in. WAIT! I am posting the Saturday Check-in. For the next few weeks, while Khloe gathers her wits about her things and heads West (left of me!!), I will be filling in.

~

Let the greetings begin!

Hopefully I will be going back to sleep soon, but thought I’d take the rare opportunity to great you early in the diary!

raining and 61 here going up to 73 in the Hudson Valley of NY.

Was planning to do some gardening but have no interest in being mired in muck.

Frank had a nice run at the park at 5am, then we ran some errands and I am home enjoying a French Omelette. Was up past 2am with the bar down the street testing our noise ordinance and the cops did nothing, My walls were vibrating to the bass. Am planning to crawl back into bed before facing the day. At any rate, the French Omelette thing is something I decided to tackle last week. They are so easy to make I thought I would share the video that inspired me to try making them…

Oh well, couldn’t get it to embed but it’s worth a watch.

We all have fun in the mornings chatting and sharing our plans for the day.

But please consider writing some more in-depth pieces for the front page. Admins promote them – but there needs to be a plethora of pieces from which to choose  ðŸ™‚

I’m perfectly willing to continue with my long-standing agreement with Moose oldsters to FP’ing Black Kos, but Moose shouldn’t have have a preponderance of cross-posted from GOS front page material.

Moose was known for lively discussion of subject matter on the FP. Currently – that isn’t happening. Comment threads there tend to be quite limited (with a few recent exceptions like the Boston bombings – which had everyone riveted) and when Jan posts POTUS talks, but we have a wide array of talented bloggers gathered here – and there is a wide world of newsworthy subject matter that can be covered.

Part of what brought many of us older-timers to Moose in the first place is the slower pace. FP pieces could be discussed over days…not a dizzy spin from one subject to another in a matter of hours.

Part of the charm of Moose for me has always been its lack of rigidity – there really is no party line here – as long as discussions are conducted with civility.

Granted, we have never been locked into the bash and meta mode of some other blogs – simply because the tone of the pond has encouraged peaceful gathering to chew our cuds over meaty or curious matters.

This is not meant to dampen our fun in the mornings/afternoons where we have community confabs. They are an important place to forge new friendships with folks and continue and maintain some that existed before purple.

So dust off your purple pens my dears and see what you can do.

    off to grab some coffee.

    Hugs,

    Dee

It’s about 60 degrees but may hit 69. I have been up ALL NIGHT because of insomnia again. Bullwinkle and I had breakfast and then he crawled back into bed. I hope to join him shortly.

48 going to 59 and partly sunny here today.  I am lying in bed while I do this.  My husband has the weekend off and the kids seem happy this morning.  A better start than yesterday, that’s for sure.

  7. It’s breezy, sunny, and about 50 here now, maybe heading to 60.

Jim’s across from me where he belongs. Nine more work days until he is done. 😀

I made lemon cookies last evening. I think they’re pretty good, good flavor, but the texture was a little different, not very cookie-ish.

Sewing, cleaning, kid-proofing, house-proofing, writing today.

    Have a great one!

warm and still with beautiful clear blue sunny skies. Grace has had a good start to her day and is catching a nap right now curled up in my lap. Our old dog got her vaccinations yesterday so she’s not feeling great but at least Grace let up some on pestering her. We didn’t get rain yesterday although the watershed did so our water supplies are slightly less threatened, we have too many people for the water available for them. As long as the oil boom is going on it won’t matter, people will hire tanker trucks to deliver water for themselves and think they’ve solved the problem.

  9. He’ll leave MS on Monday, drive to Chicago for a Cubs game with his BFF Daniel, and come back to Iowa on Tuesday. Kind of the long way home, but that’s okay.

Dan is a smart, smart-alecky, sunny young man, someone Son grew up with, played in jazz band with. He’s in a PhD program at Northwestern.

Son asked about my schedule tomorrow, because it is MOTHERS’ DAY. I told him he could bring me a present on Tuesday. He asked if instead “can I bring you [FFDIL], [DinIA’s], [DinMD’s], and Dan at the end of the week?”

I get ALL MY KIDS at the end of the week. 😀

Low 50s here with thick fog. Yesterday it never did burn off. Maybe today will be a little nicer. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer yet, even at the beach.

I watched The King’s Speech yesterday on my Kindle. What a good movie. 🙂

My to do list seems overwhelmingly long today……already!

Hmmmm……a snooze, some more quiet reading, or a shorter list. Perhaps all three are in order.

looks like another rainy day, after 2 days of rain. I hope that’s a good sign that the drought is ending. It would be nice to have rainy days during the summer and not to have to endure triple digit heat with friggin’ blue skies with nary a cloud in sight.

  13. The good news is that I actually slept in to 10:00 this morning. I think shear exhaustion had set in. Cough now deep in my chest. Sore throat still giving me fits. Energy level nil. My niece was hoping to take me out to see Iron Man 3 with the family for Mother’s Day but will probably spend the day on the couch with lots of liquids (still can’t swallow very well) and watch cooking shows.

One thing about last night is that the dreams were vivid and gave me a new storyline for the second short story series. The  first series and story one of the new series are here http://artbymichelewilson.com/… The stories are fantasy oriented and suitable for all ages.

Plans for today after my body rejected the idea of trying to do laundry is artwork and lots of naps. This is one of my latest Playing Catch.

I’ve found a doctor, just one block from where I live, who might facilitate my getting a card (I need to take documentation and prescriptions to my assessment). And there is an outfit, also nearby (with positive reviews from Yelp, FWIW), which delivers product to the door. So I’m closer to getting set up.

Meanwhile, a good friend has shared with me a small amount of his stuff. And it seems to be helping in the way that I hoped.

Did the triathlon this morning. Because the swim was in a pool that’s a “lazy river” type pool, we had to wait in line for a long time, but it was only 400 meters. I walked a lot of it. The bike was supposed to be 2 loops, I only did one of them — yes, I really should have trained more. I did do the whole 2 miles of the “run”.

    here’s my finish line picture:
