Saturday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

You can follow the daily moosetrails here: Motley Moose Recent Comments.

Your regularly scheduled Khloe will return tomorrow.

Let the greetings begin!

on first cuppa java.  Hen on my back porch is still sitting in a flower-pot on one egg (she previously laid 14 that froze)

The rest of the hens do their laying in strategic hidden spots around the farm.  This one just glares at the dogs, cats and me as we go in and out of the back door.

Work up at 3:30, could not get back to sleep and finally gave up at 4:30.  I’m an early riser but not like this.  Just gives me more time to do nothing.  Enjoy your week-end!

…early-risers. 3:30 AM and here I am unable to sleep. Nothing’s wrong in the way of pain or anything, but for some reason I haven’t been able to get further than dozing. I just feel uneasy. If I could I’d take a hot bath and see if that helped.

Anyway. I’ll try sleeping again in a bit. Meanwhile, I hope everyone’s weekends are getting off to a fine start!

Currently 45 in the Shenandoah Valley, with an expected high of 66. Working for a couple hours this morning, then off to finish painting the shop. Right now, sitting in Starbuck’s, getting breakfast.

It’s 42 degrees here in central NJ, but it is going to be a lovely day. We picked up Rob from college yesterday afternoon. He is home for the summer, and then he heads back in August for his final semester. It is great to have him home.

56 degrees with an expected high of 72. A perfect Michigan day! The forecast is showing 70’s for the next 6 days.

I survived the 13 hour shift last night, but the calves are mooing and the dogs are howling. Parts of me are getting to old for hours like that.

Tomorrow’s Morning Check In will be posted between 7:30 and 8 Eastern. I’m going to be held over again. I hope all of you don’t mind. Hours are hard to come by where I work. I plan on getting while the getting is good.

A Saturday morning earworm to get you through your day.

I watched animal programs, read a magazine and fed Bullwinkle. He’s back in bed and shortly I will probably join him. It’s 50 degrees here on Long Island, NY. Good sleeping weather. Will probably get up to 60.

  8. As for me, I understand way too well what it’s like to wake up at 3:30. Empathy for all of you. This morning, however, I slept until almost 6. LATE! It was great. And yes, I think the changing temps have something to do with erratic sleep. Heck, we’ve had the AC on already, and we still have the electric blanket on our bed!

Mantel vs mantle: I have to admit, I never noticed the difference. Odd for me, as I usually am picky about stuff like that.

Paperwork, sewing, housework today. I am a domestic moose, for sure. But I’m not a diva, JanF, so no worries about that!

Son left yesterday morning, got back to Mississippi safely last evening. This morning (he is so sweet) he posted a picture of “his” grandma on Facebook. It’s actually FFDIL’s grandma. He didn’t get enough time with his own, so I’m glad he has grandparents again, even if borrowed.

TWO WEEKS from today is the party and commissioning ceremony!! Last evening we baked peanut butter cookies, most of them to go in the freezer.

Got down in the 60’s last night though. Probably won’t see that again until November. And the humidity is about 1000% due to two days of rain, including a foot of rain on Thursday. My sleeping habits are screwed up too. Up til after 2am trying to sleep. I finally turned on El Gringo on HBO to put me to sleep. Possibly the worst movie ever? Hope you all have a good weekend.

  10. It is supposed to be grey and rainy all week here. I think Mother Nature is punishing us for all the anti-science garbage our wacko State Legislature is coming up with. Heavy sigh!

One of my favorite Irish sayings is:

Dance as if no one were watching.

Sing as if no one were listening.

Live each day as if it’s your last.

This picture was inspired by it and is called May You Dance.

Grace needed to be let out of her crate so I gave her some kibbles and she took care of her business. Then she went happily back to sleep as did everyone else. It’s warming up fast this morning, we’ll hit the 70s today and the 80s tomorrow. So far the wind is calm so I have plans for some outdoor work.

  12. About 54° now, heading up to 61. Breezy and kind of damp. We could get more rain but if we do, it won’t be much. Since Thursday night we’ve had about 1.4 inches of rain.

Already the river is high and fast. The precip north of here will feed that, of course, and moreso the Mississippi. We don’t have danger of flooding here and in fact don’t need to worry about wet basement or anything because of the slope of our property.

It’s sunny and may reach 70&degs in Bellingham today. Yesterdays time in the garden was muddy sweaty fun. I can use a shovel again(!) and I thought that would never happen so it was a nice moment. But today I’ll need to be more careful.

I started reading a new series, The Maisie Dobbs books, by Jacqueline Winspear so reading outdoors is part of my plan.

I also want to explore my new to me sewing machine. My favorite machine is a mechanical Pfaff that I bought it in the 1980’s. I’ve sewn miles and miles on that machine….it feels like an extension of me. It’s getting harder to find replacement parts now so I bought a restored version of the next model up  as backup. All the new machines are computerized, but so many of my automatic techniques are based on my old machine I just get annoyed when I use them. I want the needle to go up when I put it up…not when the machine decides to!

Can’t tell you how glad I am to have the work week over with… if nothing blows up over the weekend I should have two relatively free days ahead.

45 degrees currently in the Armstrong Valley, with no fog: just soft sunshine and the lingering coolness to enjoy.  Expected high is mid-80s today, a welcome cool down from the past week.

Now to pour a second cup of coffee and go back to read all your posts.  Thanks, Jan and all, for being here this morning.  Enjoy your day!

cold morning, but high will be in the upper 70s, cool for here in May.

Having lunch with friends then grocery shopping. After a morning of watching MSNBC. Perfect day.

  16. beef stroganoff (mmm!) and a nice red. Jim is playing guitar for me, and I’m working on a blog post. A good way to spend the evening.

Hope you all have a good night.
