Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings and Grazings of the Moosekin

The morning check-in is an open thread to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else”

    Happy Tuesday. Today was my early day; I’ve been at work for over an hour and a half and I’m not necessarily glad about it.

    Snow melting, supposed to be up to 60 by the weekend. I AM glad about that. Now hopefully it can stay warmed up.

    Crisp and fairly clear here this morning.

    Having problems with a lawyer getting two more forms so I can finish up my late brother’s financial mess. The stress kept from sleeping well last night so awfully groggy this morning.

    Just wish I could get away from everything for a while but that’s not possible.

    It’s about 23 degrees out and maybe getting to 40, if we are really lucky. The sky is pretty with impending sunrise.

    I probably feel better today than yesterday. But it’s early. We’ll see how it goes.

    I did get one of my paperwork stacks sorted, as promised. We can finish the taxes this afternoon. And I’ll work on addressing commissioning ceremony invitations today, too. And finish the binding for a bad quilt that has to leave the house, preferably soon.

    Other stuff on the list, too. There always is.

    Best news is that plumber fixed my furnace and now I can type without mittens. My office is now toasty warm.

    Not so good news – trip to the eyedoc yesterday for check-up and new glasses has spotted what looks like glaucoma, and I have cataracts in both eyes.

    Thankfully, I have good health coverage (yay to my union) I now need 3 pairs of glasses – one for driving, the other for reading and the third for the puter. Union gets me a new pair free every two years and half-price on any others so it was not very expensive.  

    Will be going to see the top glaucoma doc in the region at the end of the month. I will probably have to cancel going to NN, because I am going to do the surgery for cataracts over the summer break.

    Glad to have caught it early.  

    Has anyone here ever had cataract surgery?

    Would be interested in how long it takes to recuperate.

    it will be fifty degrees here in Manhattan. Guess Spring has spring. My local radio station has been playing nothing but Bach the last week and will continue this week. It’s just sublime, Hope it’s a good day for all in the herd.

    Had to wear a coat & gloves. And actually use the heater in the car. This is just freakish – coats & gloves at the end of March. But we should be back to our normal gorgeous by the weekend.

    I woke up at 4:30 & again at 5, decided I might at well get up. I have a headache at the front of my head. Drinking tea into which I dumped a 5 hour energy, don’t think it’ll be enough to keep me awake today but we’ll see.

    Eating breakfast. If I keep up with this diet, I’m going to buy the granola instead of making my own, I burned mine. Though having poured chocolate coconut water on it (not on the diet) last night, it tastes ok, you can imagine it is carmelized.

    Today: stay awake, work, tri group’s 1st meeting. My dem club is meeting today (our normal day is Wednesday). I e-mailed the officers to ask someone to make a pitch for me during the announcements. The prez said he would. Hope he does, though I am now up over $1100 raised, which I would hate in any normal year, but this year is pretty darn good.

    Temperature widget says 49°F but it feels colder on account of being breezy out. Damn this drafty old building. Cold woke me up after a long night’s rest (I went to bed at 9:30).

    Was out having a short walk yesterday when I missed a call from P/T, who wanted to come by. I’ll call her this morning and reschedule. Nurse is coming today so maybe I can kill two birds with one stone.

    WHERE’S MY COFFEE? Oh. There’s the steamkettle shrieking now.

    Cold like the rest of y’all here in North Texas this morning, not particularly ready for it to warm up since I know what mother nature has in store for us over the next 6-8 months.

    afternoon.  We got another 9 inches of snow Sunday while St. Louis got a foot of the stuff.  Cleared most of it off the car yesterday while waiting for Mr. Fixit from CenturyLink to come fix whatever caused my internet/tv to stop working Sunday afternoon.  Finally back in commission later afternoon yesterday.

    the wind is calmer than yesterday.  I don’t like this!  We always had my older son’s birthday parties outdoors (he’s 42 today) – dis ain’t right!  Of course, that was in Austin – Fayetteville is further north.  Sigh.  Y’all take care, bf

    …to meet up with two or three FFO’s (Friends From Orange) for a wee cocktail or two sometime next week. We will be meeting at an atmospheric watering hole in my own neighborhood, The Little Shamrock, which has been there since the 1890s, right across the street from Golden Gate Park.

    It’s the kind of place that has comfy old sofas and armchairs in addition to more “standard” bar furniture, and they make an Irish Coffee that is decent, if not quite great.

    Luckily, the place is enough of a “draw” to lure my friends to my out-of-the-way neighborhood so I don’t need to face taking public transit (or spend money on a taxi). I can walk there quite easily, with or without crutches.

    I’m perhaps unduly excited at the prospect because I don’t get out very often, especially for recreational purposes.

    Oh, and anyone in the area is welcome to join us! 🙂

    …before the nurse gets here at 10. Turns out I’m guilty of overconfidence, because I tried a couple of steps without the crutches and it didn’t go so well. Too wobbly yet to give up the sticks.

    I fooled myself into thinking it would be easier than it is because I’ve had no problems getting around the apartment for several days now without aid of crutches. Out on the pavement really IS different. Maybe I’ll do okay with a cane, but after teetering this morning I’m not in as big a hurry to try. 🙂

    Great day so far…had a good giggle at the chicken’s expense this morning. My turn to let them out to range, I opened the coop door and they just looked at me like I had lost my mind. I guess they aren’t exactly embracing twist in the weather either! They finally ventured out when the sun popped through the clouds. Silly birds.

    They’re the reason I was up early–egg run today. 8 chickens, 8 eggs a day and it doesn’t take long to be elbow deep in eggs. So off to give away eggs. Friends, neighbors and the senior citizens luncheon at one of the churches :o) Now I only have 8 eggs…And then we start all over again tomorrow!

    I’m making tiny pizzas for supper. I have whole wheat pitas that are about 6″ across and am using homemade pesto for the sauce. Four slices of pepperoni each, a little chopped up kalamata olives, and some mozzarella. mmm they smell good in the oven!

    I had a wonderful nap and am now waiting around for food delivery, after which I can head down to the corner store for some milk and Reese’s PB Cups. Yum.

    3 city trip down the west coast. Portland. Bay area. Los Angeles. Got a cold in PDX and am suffering from plugged ears and sinuses from the airplane parts of the trip, but it was so worth it.

    There was much walking up the steeps slopes of the hills above Hollywood with daughter bwren and her hubby and the grandpup. Oh, the flowers and the fragrances! And good food every day and a music gig in the hills above Malibu that paid for my rental car.

    60 degrees here at home and sunshine, too.

    I told my boss today that I will be retiring in November. He said, “No. You can’t.” I said, “Yes. I can. I’ll be 65 and I can do whatever I want!” He laughed and said, “Then you’ll have to train someone to take your place.” It’s official now. Oh my.
