In other words, if you don’t want it said to you, then don’t say it to someone else. Respect is an important thing. If you feel the need to not respect, then step away and take a breath. Political debate can be both spirited and respectful.

For those looking for a second chance to make a first impression, that is very good advice.

    Maryland is NOT supposed to be colder than Wisconsin, wtf? 🙂

    Got up early to watch the Aussie Open. I should probably go back to sleep when it’s over, but now I’m having coffee. I’m not very bright this early in the morning.

    Started watching season one of “Girls” on HBO…anybody else watch that? We are enjoying it. Have to catch up because now they are on season two already!

    Heh: just realized that there’s a picture of a moose right behind me on my office wall. It’s been there so long I don’t “see” it anymore. Mooseblivious!

    13 degrees in the Hudson Valley, and we are actually going to get above freezing this afternoon!  Break out the swim suits!

    Which sounds like a 70’s teen rock group now that I think about it.

    23 and cloudy here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed above freezing for the second day in a row. Still no sign of the glowing golden orb that used to grace our skies from time to time. I’m beginning to think it may be gone for good.

    Your new lead pic (love the redesign) brought to mind the very first LOL in my photobucket.

    20 degrees this morning. We are expecting a high of 29 today. I’m told that there will be an ice storm tonight. Before you ask, yes I will be working. Lemons into lemonade though. I am expecting a slow night at work tonight.

    with a high of 52 today and up to 66 by Tuesday.

    Then snow for the 30th, but it is February.

    Our neighbors were over last night for another round of Euchre. Funny to find anyone who knows the game here in TN, but to the point of a recent diary the South is – like other areas – more mixed than stereotypes would have it (they are from WI, where Euchre also reigns).

    Of course the men tromped and trumped the women again, 3-1. Donna and I have only partnered once, we find the “friendly” competition much more satisfying. I quote that, because Donna is, um, a little competitive and since I cannot help poking at her she scared me into flinching and smashing my elbow (we are at that stage in a relationship where our pre-knowledge of each other is alone enough to precipitate actions).

    During an office break (we men be smokers) Grant shared a video of their son Jax at five years old wakeboarding in a park they made in Wisconsin. Grant and Michelle were multi-generational performers in Tommy Bartlett’s water show in Wisconsin Dells, one of the few remaining from their heyday, so all their kids are water wizards.

    To which I had to respond by showing my own ice-boarding hijinks on Kawagama Lake.

    High in the low seventies.  It’s weird that my azaleas are already beginning to bloom. They’ll be finished blooming by the time they normally begin. This can’t be good.

    balmy NYC.  It’s now up to twenty two and didn’t even have to button my coat when I went out. My Sundays are so much better now that I have decided not to read the Sunday NYTimes anymore. The combination of Dowd and Douthat would spoil my day. Hope it’s a fine day all over Mooseland,

    in the mid-50s for the next couple of days. Rain in the forecast for next two days but the area of possibly severe weather starts just east of here and continues past St Louis and into Illinois.

    a few clouds but the sun will finish burning them off shortly. We did get a nice 45 minute shower last week, we struggle to stay out of drought here. I’ve a busy day as mr w will be leaving in the morning for this month’s business trip. I’d say he put it off as long as possible. While I’m happy to be fully retired he’s not ready for that yet, at least he’s not traveling 3 weeks out of 4 these days. I became very used to being on my own so much so it’s good that he’s easing into this.

    Was a beautiful night last night with the full moon I took a very long walk. Still carless, so Frank gets depressed with no ride to the park in the morning. Other than that no problems. I figured out something to paint Thursday night, so now need to work on something for Monday and Tuesday. That will be today’s project. Here’s the 16×20″ watercolor from Thursday:

    It is a balmy 16 degrees F. I have bread rising, a Honey- Wheat Sunflower bread. Once that’s done start carmelizing 6 lbs of onions for french onion soup. Then make a batch of the most delicious chocolate cookies you have ever had.  All in all a productive day.

    If I didn’t know better, I’d say spring is on its way. I guess we’ll have to ask the groundhog next weekend.

    Of puppy news, I’ve started a blog about them. Right now, it just has a placeholder post, and I haven’t even decided what it should look like, or whether I want to pay for my own domain (depends on what goodies come with it) — but please stop by once in a while.

    It’s at meandtwodoodles.wordpress.com . I’ll crosspost from there occasionally, but it’s mostly about raising puppies with megaesophagus. Most people do that because they get a diagnosis for a dog they already own. Why in the world would we adopt two dogs with the knowledge they had it???

    I’m staining pieces for the Bailey chair we’re building, so I must get back to it. What is a Bailey chair? Here is a great demo of a mega-e dog eating in one:

    If anyone wants to compile an actual list of statistics in a diary it would be a useful reference.

    This video was on FB today, and with a minute or two of googling the facts appear to be otherwise.

    Chris Blask I am neither pro or anti gun, but I am pro-facts. This is an important issue, and best to make argument based on fact if one cares about the outcome of the debate.

    Making a big pot of Cincinnati-style chili (yeah, I know… don’t tell my Texas neighbors). Secret ingredient: semi-sweet chocolate!. Mr. Carolina got a taste for the stuff years ago while working the night shift on a project in Cincy. I spent years tinkering with the recipe to get it the way he likes, and we wanted it ready for Superbowl Sunday. Letting is steep in the fridge for a week will be just right.
