This is pretty darned easy to remember … the posting rules for a new diary:

Be excellent to each other… or else

From Kysen’s keyboard to your eyes:

Think of our comment threads as dinner table conversations. We start with the assumption that all come to the conversation with good intentions and go from there. If you get upset or angry, get up from the table and step outside for a bit.

For those looking for a second chance to make a first impression, that is very good advice.

we have a winter weather advisory for 3-6 inches

I’ve been up all night looking at the “rat” in my kitchen, which turned out not to be a rat at all but a young opossum.  🙁

My dogs and cats are ignoring it. It is sitting on my kitchen counter near the coffee machine.

Have called an animal removal service to come trap it.

Hopefully they will show up sometime today.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

16 degrees with a high of 32 expected today. Expecting it to get windy this afternoon, so wind chill will be a factor.

34&degrees and raining here – which makes me happy, since if the temperature had gotten as low as predicted, I’d be out salting roads in our community for about 2 hours now. And, I’d forgotten to set up the coffeepot last night, so I would have been grumbling about that. However, Kidlet made coffee this morning (see, iriti, there is an advantage to Kidlet drinking coffee). So…

gloomy New York. It’s raining and around 33 degrees, Guess I am the only one who was hoping for snow. Sigh.

  5. School is closed due to flooding. The French Broad River – which here our Douglas Lake – is at 12.5 feet above flood level.

Our 33,000 acre lake rose four feet in three days.

That is 358,733,892,000 lbs of water (360 Billion). Even in tons it is a lot: 180 Million Tons.

Nature is quite the system. ;~)

20 on the lakefront, clouds rolling in later and we’ll probably get a dusting of snow and everyone will act like it’s ‘The First Time’ snow has ever covered the road. :-/

best thing about today, little o comes over for her midweek sleepover. YAY!

geez, i’m not sure my pooties and woozles would be quite as sanguine about a ‘possum on the kitchen counter, i’m not sure i would be either, especially so close to the C O F F E E!

there are just some things you don’t do

and keeping me from my coffee is one of them. 😉

    good luck, Denise.

to north Florida.  It took them 10 days (7 days just to get out of Alaska) to make the trip from Anchorage to Columbia.  Their travel plans required them to drive west toward Canada before boarding the ferry for a 4 day trip to Bellingham, WA.  They had scouted out a B&B for the second night on the road because it provided electric hookups for cars.  It was 50 below when they arrived with a drop of another 15 degrees forecast.  The promised heater was broken so they had to leave the car running all night.  I cannot fathom what being that cold is like.

Currently 34° and sunny. Local news says a “warming trend” coming, with low’s in the 40’s. Harhar.

Poor old man is getting pumped full of IV fluid again. He couldn’t keep his dinner down last night, but did keep his tiny breakfast down….and least as long as it took to get him to the vet.

The story continues…At this rate, we’ll be putting their kids through vet school…We’re getting close to four figures here and I’m still out of work. We’ll keep doing it as long as we can…

Whose woods these are I think I know.

    His house is in the village, though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there’s some mistake.

The only other sound’s the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

sorry i’ve not been around much.  that state looks to continue for awhile.  consider yourselves fierced.

This article in the Seattle Times re the concern Mental Health Professionals have re the new gun control proposals is interesting.

“Anytime you have one of these tragic case like Newtown, it’s going to expose deficiencies in the mental-health system and provide some opportunity for reform,” said Richard Bonnie, a professor of public policy at the University of Virginia’s law school who led a state commission that overhauled policies after the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings that left 33 people dead. “But you have to be very careful not to overreact.

    ~snip~

One fundamental problem with looking for “warning signs” is that it’s more art than science. People with serious mental disorders, while more likely to commit aggressive acts than the average person, account for only about 4 percent of violent crimes overall.

Having a protracted wake-up today; I just can’t seem to get in gear. Maybe the thought of a nice breakfast somewhere in the ‘hood will help motivate me…

it’s a glorious day today with lots of lovely sunshine and a gradual warm up. I enjoy the destruction process of the ice ornaments, to me that’s more interesting than when they’re intact.

My furry babies were so happy–lots of outside time today! On the downside, I’m hoping my youngest son doesn’t have flu. Spouse person picked the kiddo up from school early today because he was having a rough go of it and running a slight fever. Sooo tomorrow we go to the Dr’s office for a flu swab. Makes sense, better to swab and make sure it is flu than to give him a shot when he doesn’t need it. Not only because it’s best for him, but the Dr’s office is worried about running out of Tamiflu (?) shots. I’m hoping it’s just a combination of a head cold and not being able to sleep well.

Have a couple of baby tutu’s to make later this evening, I so enjoy doing that…Maybe one day I’ll have a granddaughter…My oldest sons are being less than cooperative about the grandbaby thing!!!!
