This is pretty darned easy to remember … the posting rules for a new diary:

Be excellent to each other… or else

From Kysen’s keyboard to your eyes:

Think of our comment threads as dinner table conversations. We start with the assumption that all come to the conversation with good intentions and go from there. If you get upset or angry, get up from the table and step outside for a bit.

For those looking for a second chance to make a first impression, that is very good advice.

See you in the threads!

because our choir is singing two services this morning.  Second cup of coffee is starting to kick in.  Dang a mule, er moose, it’s dark outside!  Happy Sunday Mooz!

  2. I was reviewing my old diaries for late conversations and stumbled across this one:

When Damien (our first) was not quite a year old we moved from Toronto to Utah. I went down three weeks early and when Donna got off the plane I was nauseous with fear that my son would not recognize me and shy away. As they came out of the jetway his mouth opened and eyes went wide with joy and he spread his arms and snuggled against my neck, craning his head back to look me in the face then snuggling tightly back in again.

And yes I am crying. Go away.

35 and rain through the night. We were expecting a sudden drop of temp(sent to us from those Wisconsin folks), but it hasn’t happened yet. I’m happy I had time to make it home first. Fire is started(by Chester). Life is good!!

Word is out about the fun we are having around here…..

it’s 30 degrees on the lakefront, the clouds are constant. a very steady rain all night. am looking forward to doing a little writing again, it’s been a while.

    might even consider a diary, maybe one with words this time. :-}

    peace.

26 going to 29. I won’t even talk about what we were supposed to get last night that we didn’t even get one flake of.  We did get ice though, and poor Emma was confused when she was on the patio trying to get out to the grass to pee, and I was trying really, really hard not to laugh!

I have to go to the mall today because apparently my daughter’s friends have been going on the weekends, but they just get dropped off. I think she is way too young to be walking around a mall without a parent at least in the vicinity, she is only in 6th grade – a young 6th grade since she just turned 11 at the beginning of the school year. I feel bad always saying no, so I said I would take them and then stay. They don’t have to hang out with me, but at least I will be around. Am I being too overprotective???

A nice day off. I think I will stay home and put my feet up. 🙂 The busy season is finally slowing down.

39 and foggy, with a predicted high of 68. Today’s projects: going out to our land, removing an ugly gate that’s been up from two owners ago, getting a tree stump along the drive as low as I can get it, and posting our building permit. Then, this afternoon when it warms up enough, we’re taking iriti’s new bike out for a spin (and I’ll need to put air in the tires of my bike).

Yesterday, I, for the most part, finished the luxury doghouse I’ve been building for friends (cedar siding left over from the garage project, a hinged roof for cleaning). I need to put 4 trim boards on, caulk the siding, and polyurethane the whole thing. Other than that, it’s done.

Contemplating putting up a photo diary in the next few days – opinions?

here in the high desert of far west Texas. Since we started the year off with a bit more than an inch of rain I’m hoping this year the drought will break. It’s been harsh out here for a couple of years and we’ve seen terrible wildfires. When people see that thousands of acres have burned and no structures they think the damage is limited. That’s because they’ve never paid for a mile of fencing. Or thought about how long it was going to take for the land to recover. We’re a hard lot out here but we can face a breaking point too.

  9. SheltieMan

Our oldest Sheltie (Dink) is not doing well this morning.

Report could be better. He’s been on rice and chicken for several days now. Before that, he was very picky in what he would eat for the last few weeks. He was also eating much reduced amounts. He’s had diarrhea on/off, too.

Early this morning, he had two bouts of black, watery diarrhea. He didn’t want to eat either, but we got his pills into him. We’re debating on taking him to the emergency vet or to our vet in the morning. He has an appointment for Thursday, but we don’t want to wait that long. We’re going to see how he does this morning and decide from there.

The black, watery diarrhea is a sign of many things, none good especially at his advanced age (almost 15).

    Stay tuned.

  10. Hold on to your pearls It’s about 30 degrees in my neck of the woods going up to a paltry 54, but in exchange for the brrr the skies were most beautifully clear this morning.

  11. dakinishir

    don’t get those too often.

about to get into workout clothes and walk to Starbucks for my morning shot, which is just about enough to fuel me for the walk home.

hope you all have a moozical Sunday~

  12. sngmama

16 degrees in snowy western IL. Mr. mama is out shoveling, supervised by crazy dingo dog.

Breaking lurkdom to tell you about something cool that happened to me yesterday. The kids (15 and 13) each had other stuff going on yesterday, so hub and I went out to lunch in the cute-shop part of town. Walking back to the car, we passed a little gallery that sells art made with reclaimed objects. Sitting outside was a little garden house (is that what you call it? something you’d put out in your garden, taller than a birdhouse). It was roofed with old license plates–my parents’. The plates had been sold at my mother’s estate sale, 100 miles away, last fall.

The little house had already sold, but we went into the gallery just to tell someone that we were happy to see what had become of the plates, and that we wished the buyer our very best. As it turned out, the person who made the house was there. She’s nearly done with a little birdhouse made out of one of the other plates, and I promised to be back to buy it in a couple of days.

I’m still slowly dealing with my mother’s 15-month illness and death, and the months we spent clearing out her big, packed-to-the-gills house. It was good to see some of her stuff out there making people happy.

of gloomy fog. Start in a new position tomorrow and off to London on Friday for 10 days. Even at my age, I get the “first day of school” butterflies.

  14. kj

mostly sunny and a cool 12*

we think Kali the cat has regained at least part of her eyesight.  she has transitioned to both wet and canned kidney diet food and i’ve figured out how to get a blood pressure pill into her every morning.   she’s jumping up onto stuff again and back to waking us up for those middle of night snuggle pets of purr-delight.

my relief knows no words.   🙂 this little 5 lb thing may be 13 years old, but she is on her first life and about as naive as they come.

i think we got her to the vet in time last week.  she’ll have a checkup in another 3 weeks to see if her blood pressure is down and if her eyesight has returned.

  15. DeniseVelez

was up at 3:30 AM doing some writing and for some reason my morning coffee did not keep me awake so I took an early morning nap.

    Now feel really groggy.

    So, good morning almost afternoon

  16. bubbanomics

chilly here in LA (hahaha i know).  You live here awhile, you become a total weather wimp.

    plus four (fierce) to all!

  17. SheltieMan

Cost is a problem because I’ve been out of work for 15 months and counting. My wife is working, but cash is extremely tight.

Since his last diarrhea at 0800, he’s been pretty much normal. He snoozed a good part of the morning away, follows my wife everywhere as usual, etc. She’s an RN and is keeping a close eye on him. He’s her baby.

What worries us is the black, watery, odorless diarrhea. Never seen any dog have it before. He’s been on a bland diet for a few weeks (that’s all he would eat), so there shouldn’t be anything irritating his bowels. There is a 24/365 ER about 30 minutes from here we can use if we absolutely have to take him in. Right now, we’re just watching to see what happens. If nothing changes, we’re going to take him in to our regular vet when they open in the morning.

hard to catch up on all the comments on Le Purple.

Going to a Spurs basketball game this evening. We got the tickets for Christmas. We’re playing against Minnesota. Would be a hoot if it was against Orlando Magic, and I’d be cheering them on. Heh.

  19. An out-of-band security patch is being released to address problems in all versions of Internet Explorer (6 through 9). Computers which have automatic updates set will pick up these updates tomorrow, January 14. If you don’t have automatic updates turned on you should obtain the updates manually.

Normally, Microsoft issues patches on Microsoft Patch Tuesday which is the 2nd Tuesday of the month. This month it was the 8th.

An out-of-band security patch is a BHD and indicates the level of Microsoft’s concern.

     I didn’t win…13th out of 21 males…top 6 become delegates.

I did not do bad considering I was up against 3 slates of insiders…one of the elders explained…I got caught in a fight between 3 groups due to redistricting…he said this was not a good year to run…of course he came in 4th.

I talked to a lot of people…but I was up against some seasoned delegates…these people had flyers and big name endorsers…I’m happy with how far I got…I even got 3 votes for the e-board…which I was not running for.

  21. BlueStateRedhead
