Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

That Took Longer Than Expected

Politico today has the news we were all waiting for: Alaskan Blogger Sarah Palin – a scathing critic of the news industry who came to national attention by being a favorite topic of the news industry – has now joined the news industry.

And not just any part of the news industry, the part we all knew she would join forces with.

The shock. Nay, the awe.  Nay, I say!  The “Aw, shucks” of it all!

The NY Daily News has this:

“I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News,” Palin said in a statement. “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balance news.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sarah Palin joins the Fair and Balanced channel to bring her home-spun down-to-earth fact-free homilies to Real American households, thus deriching an already content-light piece of the media spectrum.  For one, I find the news almost as non-newsy as much of the rest of the non-news filler on Rupert Murdoch’s hood ornament station.

Her presence on the airwaves – reaching into our homes to indoctrinate our children – culminates a cash-for-gab strategy that has been overwhelmingly obvious since the day she decided to do Alaska a favor and stop being Governor of the state.  With a best-selling fiction on the bookshelves, this completes her primary goal of doing better for herself than those unwashed rabble she used to pretend to respect.  The flood-gates of Holy Scratchrimony have opened wide for the Queen of the Silver Dollar, and neither facts nor friction can now bar her entry to the Hallowed Halls of the Rich and Infamous.

Next stop, a Tony suburb in the Hamptons and champers and caviar all around.

  2. trying to catch up on all this. my favourite headline i read today:

“Book ‘Game Change’ portrays Sarah Palin as unstable ignoramus who believed Saddam was behind 9/11″

This puts both leading Republican contenders for the 2012 nomination in Fox’s stable.  That’s a curious development which may say more about the parlous state of Republican national politics than it does about our infatuation with popular culture.
