Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Daily Tubes for August 12 and 13, 2009

I am getting a bit worn out listening and responding to the cacophony of lies and anger and greed that has taken over the national dialogue in regards to health care reform. I keep thinking that Americans will wake up and understand what is in all of our best interests. It is so plain to me, what is needed in our country, and yet all of the recent noise takes us ever further from reality.

Wednesday August 12, 2009: The day in 100 seconds by TPMtv.

Are you fearful for our country or are you hopeful? I am trying to stay hopeful.

SHOCKING! BREAKING! NEWS!!! Uh, or not.

Could someone post a nice photo with my buddy Karl behind bars. A girl can dream. Or rather here in Minnesota, often uttered by both genders: a guy can dream.

Thursday August 13, 2009: The Day in 100 seconds.

What? Wait! The Earth is not flat?!?!? Oh and for the record, I think that the idea of Death Panels rock/snark/. I have just always called them insurance companies/not snark/.

Finally! President Obama grants the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Harvey Milk.

This is rather long as it is an interview with Headzup creator Matthew Filipowicz on Air America’s Ring of Fire. I enjoy his work so much, I decided to post the interview.

A rather fine example of his work.

Honestly, at this point, I don’t give a splinter about the republicans. Democrats are giving me a serious headache though.

*If you are very observant, you will have noticed that I originally had the wrong dates on this diary. My apologies for any confusion.

  1. This seems like as good a diary thread as any we have going to post this info.

First we can take a look at what ex-Governor Sarah Palin had to say about “death panels” and Newt Gingrich defending her.

But apparently Sarah was for death panels before she was against them. Here’s what she thought as Governor of Alaska. The text as it appeared on the Alaska Government website.

Healthcare Decisions Day  Print Now Printer Friendly

WHEREAS, Healthcare Decisions Day is designed to raise public awareness of the need to plan ahead for healthcare decisions, related to end of life care and medical decision-making whenever patients are unable to speak for themselves and to encourage the specific use of advance directives to communicate these important healthcare decisions. WHEREAS, in Alaska, Alaska Statute 13.52 provides the specifics of the advance directives law and offers a model form for patient use.

WHEREAS, it is estimated that only about 20 percent of people in Alaska have executed an advance directive. Moreover, it is estimated that less than 50 percent of severely or terminally ill patients have an advance directive.

WHEREAS, it is likely that a significant reason for these low percentages is that there is both a lack of knowledge and considerable confusion in the public about Advance Directives.

WHEREAS, one of the principal goals of Healthcare Decisions Day is to encourage hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and hospices to participate in a statewide effort to provide clear and consistent information to the public about advance directives, as well as to encourage medical professionals and lawyers to volunteer their time and efforts to improve public knowledge and increase the number of Alaska’s citizens with advance directives.

WHEREAS, the Foundation for End of Life Care in Juneau, Alaska, and other organizations throughout the United States have endorsed this event and are committed to educating the public about the importance of discussing healthcare choices and executing advance directives.

WHEREAS, as a result of April 16, 2008, being recognized as Healthcare Decisions Day in Alaska, more citizens will have conversations about their healthcare decisions; more citizens will execute advance directives to make their wishes known; and fewer families and healthcare providers will have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the state of Alaska, do hereby proclaim April 16, 2008, as:

Healthcare Decisions Day in Alaska, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.

    Dated: April 16, 2008

And, since you like Headzup so much here’s their version.

I went a bit nuts last night and in addition to posting my Daily Tubes, I started a couple of draft diaries. Now I must wait to start working on today’s Daily Tubes, because I have been told I have exceeded the number of posts allowed in 24 hours.

    Frustrated in Minnesota
