Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania??

       Colorado – Primary Election

Florida – 19th District Special Election

       Maryland – Primary Election

       Mississippi – Primary Runoff Election

New York – Federal Office Primary Election

       Oklahoma – Primary Election

South Carolina – Primary Runoff Election

       Utah – Primary Election

Apparently NY Congressman Charlie Rangel is in trouble:

His odds at the ballot box have not been helped by changes in district borders and demographics. Once a black stronghold, the 13th Congressional District is now majority Latino.

Those shifts seem to favor Rangel’s challenger Adriano Espaillat, a longtime state senator. The 59-year-old is a Dominican-American who lost to Rangel two years ago by just 1,100 votes.[…]

Rangel’s not giving up his turf without a fight. He is armed with backers such as former President Bill Clinton and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Espaillat, on the other hand, enjoys strong support from unions and some top local officials. He is working hard to convince voters that he’s the future.

I am not sure that if I were a New York Democrat, I would tie myself too tightly to Gov. Cuomo.

The Mississippi GOP senate runoff makes me itchy. Why on earth would Democrats want to run against incumbent Thadd Cochran in the general? And why would Democratic operatives want to use the black community to game the election? It seems like that plays into the right-wing claims of voter fraud and ACORN and Black Panthers at the polls. Plus, I think that voting for a Republican for any reason is a stain on your soul.

Have a great day, all y’all! Off to the rat race …

degrees here. Have company this week so am hoping for good weather and that NYC looks good.

As for the news…….More kidnappings of children reported in Nigeria and then there is Iraq.

Hope Mooslyvania is an island of serenity for all.

  3. Hacking trial: Coulson guilty, Brooks cleared of charges

Ex-News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks has been cleared of all charges in the phone-hacking trial.

Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson was found guilty at the Old Bailey of conspiring to hack phones.

The jury found Mrs Brooks not guilty of conspiracy to hack voicemails, two counts of conspiracy to pay public officials and two counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

She and Coulson both denied all charges against them.

They were among seven defendants on trial at the Old Bailey.

I know our friend Peter Jukes (Brit) was covering this and I wonder if this is what he expected. Maybe we can lure him here to share a chapter from the book he is working on. 🙂

so far lovely day with a high of 86 F.

This week is Swim Lesson Week at the Community Center. It takes up most of the morning. Too tired to work at writing last night so watched “Miss Fisher’s Mysteries” instead. It amazes me that the TV series does not seem to be based on the Miss Fisher books I’ve read, and I’ve read them all.

I’ll be interested to see the results of the Maryland primaries, that being the state closest to me. The Rethug Virginia legislature executed a neat dance around our governor, who had hoped to extend Medicaid for uninsured citizens. What must it feel like to be a Rethuglican and hate EVERYONE except overfed, aging, Protestant Caucasian males? Wonder whether they all have digestive problems from their vile bile.

Hope it’s a good day for all Moosylvania!

it could rain every day this week — not a lot, but it’s better than nothing

I had a weird dream last night, just remember a little. I was eating in a restaurant, Tim Guinee was at another table, George Harrison’s What Is Life was playing on their sound system & I was singing along. Interesting.

Going after work to pick up my free ticket for Wednesday’s anniversary celebration of Wendy Davis’ filibuster. Wednesday will be fun – everyone will be there.

Did anyone else see Lawrence O’Donnell’s return last night? He was very emotional – why I love him.

for mid 80s – visited the Farmers’ Market at just before 7 this morning to get 17 gallons of blueberries.  9 now reside in my freezer for next winter, 1/2 in my fridge to eat this week – the rest were for other folks.

    Running up to end of year – the Annual Report is finally in the hands of the Chair.  He wants to go over dept finances Thursday one last time so there are no “surprises” on July 1st.  If he doesn’t approve all the money moving I’ve done this week first he still won’t know what’s going on.  Trying to get a researcher hired in – since it mostly didn’t go through me (it went apparently through 3 other people who didn’t talk to each other) I am now trying to figure out which position the person goes in, birddog that position through the approval chain, and then get the appropriate person to do the move which I can’t because I don’t have the permissions to move the person in question out of the position she’s currently in to whichever one she’s going to.  Sigh.  Hope the rest of Moosylvania is having a less confused day.  {{{HUGS}}}

Have I mentioned whined about my uncomfortable booted leg yet today? Sorry for complaining so much, but 24 days to go is feeling long this morning. I’ve had enough “character building” experiences, tyvm!
