Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Today is the last day in our extended forecast below 70. Definitely a hiking weekend coming up!

Back to bed with me. I’m off work today so I plan to have at least a small sleep-in.

  2. 35 degrees here on its way up to 61 degrees. Sunny but rain moving in tomorrow for about 4 days. Our time for “daytime highs always over 70°” probably won’t be until Memorial Day.

Lots of good stuff to read on the moose and only time to skim and rec. I hope to find time to return later today. Yesterday’s spotlight on paycheck fairness is a big deal and it is symbolic of the good government ushered in with the 111th Congress and President Obama’s inauguration: their first act was to fix a Supreme Court corporatist ruling regarding Lilly Ledbetter’s wage discrimination claim. That Congress gave us the ACA and the recovery act  and the financial reforms that led to the formation of the CFPB. I thought it was ushering in years of good government but the rug was pulled out from under us by the low-turnout 2010 mid-terms. An astroturf movement funded by the money of FreedomWorks and AFP grew into a real political movement after it was fertilized with racism. We can’t fix the racism but we can overcome its power to control our politics by getting out our vote.

    See all y’alls later!!

    going up to 54.

Morning grumble:  I’m annoyed that the top/lead story in my news feed is still about Pistorius – sheesh – aren’t there more important things going on in the world?

Browsed the channels available on Verizon FIOS TV and didn’t find MASN, Mid Atlantic Sports Network, the Nationals station. Must call and cancel TV part of my order.

I’ll switch to FIOS for home phone and Internet but not TV without baseball, of course.

Off to the National Archives (NARA) today. Over springy tee, wearing my NARA jacket, a white Levi’s mens shirt with two breast pockets where I put my MP3, camera, handkerchief and everything.

    TTYL.

Chilly again – 50s (chilly by Austin standards), I suppose I should be grateful it isn’t already hot 24/7. But it’s weird wearing a sweater this late in the year. It’ll be in the upper 70s this afternoon.

Eating kiwifruit after dinner may be helping with the insomnia. I feel less awful in the mornings, and my fitbit says I only woke up 8 times last night. Not that I couldn’t still fall asleep at the drop of a hat. But maybe it is a little better.

I’m going to have to return the fitbit soon, I’ve developed the skin irritation that they have the recall on for. I think I’m going to get the similar thing that Polar has to replace it.

Leaving at 4:15 again to drive up to the squishing place.

We’re looking at highs in the 70s/lows in the 50s through the weekend, then an overnight frost Monday with the rest of next week highs 60s/lows 40s.  Yup.  It’s Springtime 🙂

It’s quiet at the moment but that won’t last long – day 3 of priority registration.  Last night at QC Finance just made me gladder than ever that I’m getting out of there.  State Audit procedures got rid of the “misc” line the dept heads could use to balance line variations forcing them to guess every year how much they are going to need in each line.  The Court that I am currently a part of is basically reprimanding the dept heads every time they go negative in a line and demanding that they ask permission before moving money from one line to another in their operating/maintenance budgets.  I finally spoke out, rather forcefully, about this last night and at least one JP had the courtesy to say, “I disagree”, before going right back to hammering the dept heads for running their departments.  Oh well.  At least my tummy was/is feeling better enough that I actually had the energy to make the comment/protest.  {{{HUGS}}} to all in Moosylvania.

here in Northern Virginia. Agree with Jan there’s a lot of good stuff to read on the Moose and will try to stop by later. Mystified by my lack of energy–is this the lingering aftermath of having the ‘flu? Anyway, I plan to do a lot of things and yet accomplish only half of them.

Found something on my FB feed that promised a FREE Web site, so I’m looking into that. Problem is, finding things to put on it!

Still trying to figure out Twitter, as in how do you incorporate a link to a Web site or a book link in your Twitter sig–might have to Google it when I have time.

Have to clean up the place for Easter–what an undertaking.

    Everyone have a good day!

Due to pouring rain we were indoors with legos and a monopoly game yesterday….today might a bikes to the park day if my DIL can help me. Ron needs to go to eastern Wa to be with his mom. She’s doing well but at age 96 it doesn’t take much to put her in the hospital so he needs to be there to help make decisions re her care.
