Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Make it stop!!

I want to talk about what is going on in Crimea as it is now apparently part of the Russian Federation.  The president of Ukraine is saying this situation is now “military” not “diplomatic.”

There is a missing plane that has CNN breathless and all FNC, and that whole situation is really weird.

We cannot get past 30 degrees here; yes, that is cold for Vermont this time of year.

But work will not leave me alone.  Of course, working two jobs and seven days a week might have something to do with that.

So …

with me.  (Get it?!)

And fill me in on what I am missing.

  1. The plane thing is the most ridiculous waste of the resources of the news media. Why aren’t they covering the way the Republicans are destroying our country? Is it because this is all they are capable of covering, having dumbed themselves down to this extent? One guy on CNN actually had a panel discussion on whether the disappearance was supernatural … JHC on a popsicle stick!!

We have Grampa McCain saying that President Obama blew it by not threatening to invade Russia! Did he fall on his head???

And the two GOP candidates in the run-off for Lt Governor in Texas want to have a debate IN PRIVATE!! At a country club … with no press!!! Because I guess it really comes down to impressing donors, not educating the voters.

p.s. We had 46 degrees here.

  2. Don’t Tell Ruth Ginsburg to Retire

Now that she is on the Court, she’s being told she doesn’t belong there any more. I doubt she’s paying attention.

These reflections are sparked by a recent column in the Los Angeles Times by Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean of the University of California at Irvine School of Law. Chemerinsky is a giant-the author of popular textbooks and treatises, he has also argued five cases in front of the high court. He speaks from a progressive viewpoint, and he suggests that Ginsburg retire at the end of this term. Delaying her departure even until 2015, he argues, risks allowing a Republican president to fill her seat. That would tip the Court’s dynamics in a radically conservative direction, imperiling the right to choose abortion as well as settled law on same-sex marriage, the Affordable Care Act, and the environment.

I hope she keeps not listening to knotheads like Chemerisky. Seriously, what is he smoking???

We will never get a liberal justice until we have 70 Democratic Senators. We can’t even get 10 Democrats to agree that gun violence kills children and that it is reasonable for a Surgeon General to discuss that fact. We can’t get 7 Democrats who believe that an attorney advocating on behalf of a client should not be permanently banned from public service. As the Republicans continue to lose national elections, the Senate — with 60 or 51 or 49 Democrats will be hard pressed to do anything positively progressive.

I approve this message! And for some reason listening to the song makes me feel better on weight of the world days.

The small company I work for was recently sold to a slightly larger company.  Not a huge deal at this point as nothing much is going to change short-term.

But, both companies pay on the 1st and 15th of the month.  Now the company I originally worked for was quite lenient on the pay period in that they actually paid you for the dates that you hadn’t yet worked.  Weird, but okay.  Then the new company comes along and says (rightfully) that’s not going to work.  The problem is I didn’t find out until I submitted my time card using the usual method and was told we could only go up to the date that we were submitted the time card.  Soooo, I got paid for six days instead of the expected ten.

That this change was made was not unexpected but to find out while submitting the time card pisses me off.  I would not have had the plumber come in if I’d have known.  Lack of communication pisses me off!

am waiting for someone to point out, maybe that person already has, that Malaysia is next to Indonesia which is where a Kenyan Marxist Democrat grew up. And all kidding aside, for those involved it’s horrible. Just plain horrible. But would also like more coverage on how Crimea might be related to our problems with Iran. We and others joined with Russia on a diplomatic solution and not a military one. Now what? The hawks in the Senate, including those on our side, are beating the drums. And then there is Syria and, still, Lebanon. And does this relate to our energy problems? Ha HA HA HA as someone we admire would say. I won’t even go into climate change.
