Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

US investigators are suggesting that the missing Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft flew over 5 hours after its onboard ACARS was turned off. This they pulled from the EHMS data provided by RR. Most engine health monitoring systems come with ONSTAR tracking systems these days. Whoever switched off the ACARS forgot about it.

of those who died in the building explosion in El Barrio – East Harlem NYC Wednesday morning.

In a way – have to be thankful that if it had been an hour earlier children would not have left for school – and people not have left yet for work.

    5 people are still missing.

Damn drunk drivers to hell. Some asshole decided not getting a DWI was more important than a bunch of people’s lives, fled his traffic stop & ploughed into a crowd. 2 dead, 23 in the hospital. They need to raise the drinking age to 30. And maybe do something about driver’s licenses.

Crappy night’s sleep – my mind just wouldn’t shut up, even when I kept telling it to. And it’s cold (by Texas standards). Supposed to be sunny & warm this afternoon.

Every time I hear of a hit-and-run or some awful wreck on the Beltway, it turns out to have happened in the wee hours.

Gloomy news morning for a sunny but windy day. I’m at my son’s house. During the night the wind blew the massive barbecue, the table, and all four chairs from one end of the deck to the other. The wind howled so much tht Mr. Monty crept into our bedroom to spend the night.

Have been following news of the missing Malaysian airliner with interest, as many of the Malaysian names are familiar–Kuala Lumpur, Khota Baru, Penang, the Straits of Malacca. My family lived in Singapore a long time ago. One doesn’t know whom to believe about the missing flight. The Malaysians seem very cagey about providing information, the Chinese appear to be growing increasingly irritated and frustrated, and American investigators are chomping at the bit to jump in. The lack of oil slicks and wreckage on the sea surface puzzles me. However, if the plane had crash-landed in the jungles of Viet Nam, we’d have heard something by now.

For now, the lost souls aboard flight 370 appear be just that…lost.

Amid Search for Plane, Malaysian Leaders Face Rare Scrutiny

Malaysia’s governing elite has clung to power without interruption since independence from Britain almost six decades ago through a combination of tight control of information, intimidation of the opposition and, until recently, robust economic growth.

But worldwide bafflement at the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has challenged the country’s paternalistic political culture and exposed its coddled leaders to the withering judgments of critics from around the world.

The article helps me understand why information from Maylasia seems so confusing.

My visiting family has gone home so today will be a resting day and then I’ll get back to my sewing room redo.

I’m wishing I could build a tall fence around the garden too…the deer seem to think it is their all you can eat buffet!

The Kickstarter is going to expire, and all of the funds will go back to the donors. It’s just not what anyone wants to donate to right now.

But, we’ll try to fund the project using other sources. I think it’s okay — it gave me an excuse to write about what ACT and HOLD are doing, anyway.

Thanks all for keeping it front and center for so long.

    Cheers!

mid 60s.  Sun’s shining.  That makes it a good day, I think.  There’s not a whole lot else out there to make one think so.  At least not that I’ve seen so far.  I’ll keep looking.  {{{HUGS}}} to Moosylanians.
