Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

snow tomorrow and Monday – the forecasters can’t make up their minds about how bad it will be.

    As it stands now:

East: An initial round of light snow (sleet and freezing rain, also) moves into the Northeast Sunday. Heavier snow builds into the Northeast overnight Sunday night continuing into much of Monday, before tapering off late Monday afternoon and evening. Six inches of snow is possible from the New York City metro area New York state and extreme southern New England to Delaware, northern Virginia and West Virginia. Within this swath, a few spots will pick up over one foot of total snow through Monday afternoon. Accumulating snow is possible as far south as southern Virginia, or even a few areas in North Carolina.

East travel impact: Road conditions will deteriorate quickly overnight Sunday night, with treacherous travel likely on Monday from extreme southern New England at least to northern Virginia, if not farther south. Major impact on Northeast airport hubs with numerous cancellations/delays are likely Monday.

Eating breakfast, watching Up. No New Jersey for the whole 1st hour — Arizona & marriage equality. Going to a plant sale this morning, then a doctor appointment. And I swear I’m going to exercise.

It’s supposed to get up to 80 here. And tomorrow is supposed to be warm, until a front comes through — and the highs early next week will be around 50. This weather is exhausting.

Our Saturday is getting off to a very slow start. We’re still in dressing-gowns and slippers! It’s so cold I just don’t feel like going out.

Yesterday Miss Pink Cheeks demanded silence during morning drive-time to day care so she could take a nap. While she pretended to sleep in her booster seat in the back, I thought of a plot idea for an 800-word short story. I’ll have to get the story written today as the contest deadline is tomorrow.

Felt a bit better yesterday afternoon so I took Nora’s favorite book, The Toddlers’ Bible, to day care to read to her and the other students. Nora thinks Mr. and Mrs. Noah look like Grandma and Grandpa and that Adam and Eve look like Mommy and Daddy. The children were so adorable!  One little girl knew her Bible, all right, and was able to identify the baby sleeping in the reed basket right away.

Today will be a day of work interspersed with shopping to lay in stores for “It.” “It” is evidently coming on Monday morning, but our forecasters keep saying they don’t know whether it’s going to be snow or a wintry mix. The Washington, DC area is situated in The Weird Zone, so blizzards frequently bypass us; on the other hand, one of the worst snows I ever remember was in March. One memorable year–1990, that was–the temp. rose to 90 degrees F.! Went for a three-mile walk that day, perspiring happily and thinking that summer had come early. 🙂

Hope everyone will have a good weekend!

More snow is in the forecast for this weekend though so I’m still not planting the primroses. My old camellia is finally more upright so if it does snow again I hope it’s just a flurry before the spring rain settles in.
