Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

17 degrees of cold here – surrounded by snow and ice and though school is open – I ain’t going.  Am taking one of my “forced unpaid furlough” days today.

Figgered I’d spend the day relaxing since I have to be in NYC at 6AM tomorrow morning which means we have to leave here at 3:30.  Argh.

snow flurries at the moment.  It might even get up to double digits today.  Maybe.  Today is the first full day (presupposing they don’t send us home early) this week – the University opened at 12:30 Monday and Wednesday and not at all on Tuesday (just as well – I apparently missed the OMG! Obamacare! BS-fest Tuesday since I wasn’t online and only got the “well, duh, job-creator, not job-destroyer” updates when I glanced at GOP headlines yesterday).  Anyway, I have lots of work to catch up on and need to get to it, but wanted to check in at least once this week 🙂  Good health to all in mooseland and stay warm if you can.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

Well, we’re on a 2 hour delay……but I think I’m staying home all day. I’d like to take a nap after breakfast, and work out this afternoon. We have snow & ice – none outside my door, but there is some in the area. And freezing temps.

Plan for the day – nap, workout (inside the gym)

cloud cover. About to start on TurboTax. Every day I plan to do stuff and then get sidetracked. My desktop publisher in Pennsylvania is without power until some time this weekend, so don’t have to race to get her the next batch of stories to format–she can’t format anything at all at the moment.

Miss Pink Cheeks and I have such widely ranging discussions during the drive to day care in the mornings, it makes me laugh. This morning, after she sang “Oranges and Lemons” all by herself, we discussed the meanness of King Henry VIII, who liked to chop off people’s heads; his daughter, Good Queen Bess; Her Britannic Majesty Elizabeth II and what she likes to eat for breakfast (egg, bacon, and toast); and why it’s important to wear sunscreen at the beach. That’s a lot for someone who will be five years old in 11 days!

Elder son will come over for dinner Saturday night as his wife is flying out to California today for a long weekend, the lucky thing. She and her sister will be sunbathing on the beach in Santa Barbara, no doubt. We’re going out to dinner Sunday evening with a friend who’s been “hibernating,” as she puts it.

Hope everyone will stay warm and cozy this weekend. Denise, we will be thinking of you and hoping to hear good news of a successful march in North Carolina!

Called doc & have an appointment for 9am tomorrow. I have a lot of moles (have been checked for whatever syndrome it is that that’s a symptom of & that’s negative), and one of them has been painful over the past couple of days then started bleeding this morning. Not a lot, but that there was any was enough to have me call.

Pretty sure I’m not going to the gym. Eating lunch – kale salad, cheddar-jalapeno scone & kombucha. Watching tv – that boy from Katy who is on White Collar is just adorable. Probably skipping the workout & going straight to the nap.
