Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

then tomorrow, it’ll be warmer at the Super Bowl than here

Watching the news, eating breakfast. Had a really awful night’s sleep last night (confirmed by my fitbit, which says 4 hours of sleep). So, definitely going to get in that workout this morning, before the endorsement meeting which has suddenly become super stressful.

I really should have decided what I’m eating next week so I can buy groceries today.

I’ll check in this afternoon & tell y’all how things went.

Hi, anotherdemocrat, sorry about your bad night. I took knock-out pills last night (night-time cold meds.) and had the first decent sleep I’ve had in a week. Wouldn’t have done that if I hadn’t been desperate.

My uncle is being buried in Dallas today at 3 p.m., so my daughter will return to Austin tomorrow. Looks as if she’ll go right into cold weather. Thank you, everyone who expressed condolences about my uncle’s passing. He was such a lovely man.

This afternoon I’m taking Miss Pink Cheeks to a birthday tea with her cousin, then she’s going to spend the night with us. I hoped she’d want to watch a movie about a boy and his friendship with a seal, but she wants to watch “Charlotte’s Web” again.

SuperBore tomorrow! What will you have for dinner? I’m thinking Sloppy Joes with coleslaw. We rarely eat that, so this seems like a good time to have them.

A late hello for me today…..I slept 10 hrs last night! And Ron moved to a cane and walked down the stairs all by himself. Most welcome progress 🙂

Well, there was much angst, but we established a committee to look into our bylaws about membership. Everyone got to vote today; there are still some hard feelings, which I totally get. But things seemed to go along ok.

My candidate for County Judge won, not even a runoff. (County Judge isn’t a judge, it’s more like the mayor, but for the county). One of the commissioner races didn’t go my way, but I don’t dislike the person who got the endorsement.

I was the timekeeper, which I like because then I have an excuse to wear no stickers. And I got to tell the candidates to stop talking.

I didn’t really walk this morning, certainly no 8 miles. I’m really tired & the bruise on my arm is freaking me out. Trying to stay awake with no nap until a reasonable bed time.
